April 4, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 9 Midland Park Christina Marie Thompson of Midland Park Girl Scout Troop 470 has received her Gold Award, the top honor a Girl Scout can earn. The award was presented at a ceremony held last month at the Church of the Nativity. Thompson joined Brownie Troop 317, and rose through the ranks to Junior and Cadette. She then joined Troop 470, where she served as an Ambassador Girl Scout. Thompson earns Gold Award with Troop 470 During her 13 years with the Northern New Jersey Girl Scouts, the honoree has been recognized for her leadership, organizational skills, and interest in accepting new challenges and adventures. “For my Gold Award Project, I ran a Safety First Program for the incoming 2011 kindergarten class. It concentrated in pedestrian safety around animals, stranger danger, and the right way to call 911,” Christine Thompson, right, with her mother, Kathleen. Thompson said. She explained that she was motivated to take on the project because she saw a need for this type of program in town and because she plans to pursue a college degree in primary education. Thompson’s project was held in August 2011 in the Midland Park Library Community Room. The program included four 90- minute sessions that included educational skits and talks. Troop Advisor Sandra Abballe, fellow Girl Scouts, and Midland Park Police Chief John Casson helped her with the project. Thompson’s project advisor was Lorraine DeLuca, religious education assistant at the (continued on page 13)
