Page 14 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • April 4, 2012 Religious Notes Good Friday Devotional Walk set On Good Friday, April 6, the Allendale Community of Churches invites the public to its annual Good Friday Worship Service, “The Way of the Christ’s Passion” devotional walk at noon. This year’s walk will begin outside at Guardian Angel Catholic Church at 320 Franklin Turnpike and end in the sanctuary of Archer United Methodist Church at 37 East Allendale Avenue. Participating churches include Archer United Methodist, Calvary Lutheran, Guardian Angel Roman Catholic, Highlands Presbyterian, Trinity Episcopal, and Zion Lutheran in Saddle River. Patterned after the Stations of the Cross, a procession of people, led by a large, roughly-hewn cross, will follow a prescribed route through Allendale. Along the route, the procession will stop at 14 locations for scripture reading and prayer. Many of the lay readers and leaders of this event are youths from each congregation. The 14 stations will recall the events of Christ’s suffering and death and their contemporary implications. The Allendale Clergy Association invites all people, regardless of whether they are members of a church community, to participate. At the last station, a monetary offering to benefit the Center for Food Action will be accepted. Ecumenical service set The pastors and churches of Midland Park invite the community to a special observance of Good Friday on April 6 at 6 p.m. The service will be held at the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church at 183 Godwin Avenue. Celebrate Holy Week at MPCRC Midland Park Christian Reformed Church will remember Christ’s death and celebrate his resurrection during Holy Week with special services. On Good Friday, April 6, there will be a Community Tenebrae service with special choral music at 6 p.m. The “Hallelujah Chorus” will be featured at the Easter Sunday, April 8, service at 9:30 a.m. Located at 183 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park, the church is wheelchair accessible. For more information, call (201) 445-4260. Advent Lutheran marks Holy Week Advent Lutheran Church, located at 777 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, has announced its Holy Week services. On Holy Thursday, April 5, and Good Friday, April 6, services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Contemporary worship will be held Saturday, April 7 at 5 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 8, services will be held at 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. A Fellowship Breakfast will be served from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m. The church is handicapped accessible and has assisted listening devices available. For more information, call (201) 891-1031. Nativity announces Mass schedule Church of the Nativity in Midland Park has released its schedule for Holy Week. On Holy Thursday, April 5, there will be a morning prayer in the chapel at 8:30 a.m., and a Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, April 6, morning prayer will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. Family Stations of the Cross will be held outside, weather permitting, at 10:30 a.m. The Passion of the Lord will be held at 3 p.m. There will be no 12:10 p.m. Masses on Holy Thursday or Good Friday. On Holy Saturday, April 7, a morning prayer service will be held at 8:30 a.m. An Easter Egg Hunt and blessings of Easter baskets will be held outside, weather permitting, at 11 a.m. At the 8:15 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass, there will be a blessing of the New Fire, Paschal Candle and Baptismal Water. Note: There will be no 5 p.m. Mass on April 7. For Easter Sunday, April 8, Eucharistic Liturgies will be held at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and noon. Trinity prepares for Easter The service on Maundy Thursday, April 5, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Allendale will include a traditional foot washing at 7:30 p.m., and a Garden of Gethsemane Service at 8:30 p.m. followed by an Agape Meal at 9 p.m. Trinity will hold Good Friday Services at 3 and 7:30 p.m. on April 6. The Holy Saturday service on April 7 will be at 9 a.m., and the Easter Vigil will begin at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 8, services will be held at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The latter service will include a special “flowering of the cross.” All are welcome. Abundant Life celebrates the season Abundant Life Reformed Church will host a light meal commemorating Jesus’ Last Supper on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. A worship service with Holy Communion will follow. All are welcome. Participants are asked to bring a hot or cold dish to share. On April 7, the youth group will hold a Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by an Easter Egg Hunt for those age two through fifth grade. Holy Week will conclude with the Easter Resurrection Worship Service on Sunday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. The service will feature special music from the choir, the children’s choir, and a message from Rev. Church schedules Easter events Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff will hold two services on Holy Thursday, April 5. At noon, a service will be held in the chapel. The 8 p.m. service will include communion and a reenactment of the Last Supper. A Service of the Tenebrae will be held at 8 p.m. on Good Friday, April 6. There will be an Easter Breakfast, Puppet Show, and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The event will feature ventriloquist Marian Gehman of Marian and Friends. Her shows feature a variety of zany characters, audience-involvement, and an inspirational message. A freewill family offering will be accepted. The event is open to the public. Mashos to present lecture Kari Mashos, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, will present “Faith, Christianity, Healing: A Lecture on Christian Science” on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 259 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Mashos is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. Her talk is based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible and as discussed in Christian Science founder, Mary Baker Eddy’s “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.” Before devoting herself full-time to the practice and teaching of Christian Science, Mashos was an opera singer, and founded her own opera company. She has appeared live on radio in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. She speaks internationally as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. (continued on page 15)
