Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • September 21, 2011 Mahwah Minutes Flu vaccine offered to seniors The Mahwah Board of Health is offering Mahwah seniors the flu vaccine on Friday, Oct. 7 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the senior center at 475 Corporate Drive. Vaccinations will be given to residents who are 65 and older. Those who wish to receive the vaccine must have their Medicare Card with Medicare Part B number ready when registering. Participants 18 to 64 years of age with a chronic condition may receive a vaccine if they present a letter or prescription from a physician. Medicare HMOs will not be accepted at the flu program. Participants will be given information regarding the vaccine and will be required to sign a consent form before receiving the vaccine. Lotito to discuss social media Carole Lotito, a systems and marketing expert with 20 years of experience, will offer tips on how to make the best use of office and social technology. The program will be held Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. program at Mahwah Public Library at 100 Ridge Road. Lotito is a social media consultant and former marketing director and systems manager at NBC Sports. Her program, “The Five-Step Quick Start Guide to Social Media for Small Business,” will help businesses reach untapped, potential customers and stay connected to current ones. This program is free. Fowler to discuss ‘Tom Jones’ Kathleen Fowler, professor and lecturer at Ramapo College, will discuss Henry Fielding’s “Tom Jones” at the Mahwah Public Library’s Evening Book Group on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The library is located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah. Tom, a foundling, is discovered one evening by the benevolent Squire Allworthy and his sister Bridget and brought up as a son in their household. When Tom’s sexual escapades and general misbehavior lead them to banish him, Tom sets out in search of his fortune and his true identity. Comic performance slated Emmy Award winning actress Elaine Bromka and Reathel Bean will offer a two-person show, “As Time Goes By,” on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library. This romp explores the musings, foibles, and discoveries of characters pondering the age-old question: What does it all mean? Weaving together readings of various two-person scenes from notable plays, with a sprinkling of short poems and humorous non-fiction excerpts, “As Time Goes By” offers an hour-long “Ah, I’m beginning to understand it all...” experience. The performers draw on Thornton Wilder, Neil Simon, Garrison Keillor, Erma Bombeck, George Carlin, Nora Ephron, Judith Viorst, Alfred Uhry, Herb Gardner, Willy Russell, Pete Seeger, and others. Bernanos novel to be discussed “Not by Bread Alone,” a spiritual book discussion group, will meet on Sunday, Sept. 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Panera Bread, 1300 Route 17 in Ramsey. This month’s selection is “The Diary of a Country Priest” by Georges Bernanos. In this classic Catholic novel, Bernanos recounts the life of a young French country priest who grows to understand his provincial parish while learning spiritual humility. The novel was awarded the Grand Prix for Literature by the Academie Francaise. In October, the group will discuss “My Life with the Saints” by James Martin. This event will be held at 8 p.m. at the Sharp Theater of the Berrie Center at Ramapo College in Mahwah. Pizzarelli and Paul were long-time friends and played together in local clubs in the 1960s and 1970s. Pallo joined Paul at Fat Tuesdays and later at the Iridium as part of the Les Paul Trio. All proceeds from this concert will benefit the Mahwah Museum, which will open its Les Paul exhibit on Sept. 25. The exhibit, a celebration of Paul’s genius, will feature graphic presentations of his life, artifacts from his home in Mahwah including some rare and valuable guitars, hands-on exhibits about Paul’s inventions, and more. Elks host Children’s Ball The Mahwah Elks, based at 1 Foxwood Lane in Mahwah, will host the 38th Annual Special Children’s Ball on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 6:30 to 11: 30 p.m. The event will include appetizers and dinner with music and dancing.
