On Oct. 2, the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will host The Reverend Donald P. Smith, who will be preacher
Congregation marks Smith’s 65th year of ordination
for World Wide Communion Sunday. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Rev. Smith, an honorably retired minister of word and sacrament of the Presbyterian Church (USA), is celebrating his 65th year of ordination. The son of a Presbyterian pastor and missionary, Dr. Smith was raised in the Philippines until he was 17. He returned to live in Manila with his wife, Verna, just after World War II. He served the Presbyterian Church as general director of vocational agency and spearheaded the building of Stony Point Conference Center as a respite home for missionaries abroad. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, the San Francisco Theological Seminary, and the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Smith has served First Presbyterian Church several times as an interim pastor. Smith, who is the author of several books, including his most recent, “We Survived War’s Crucible,” is currently editing Verna’s latest book and working on his memoirs. West Bergen Center for Children and Youth Asperger’s Related Services will offer Saturday art workshops for children ages six through nine and 10 through 13. The one-hour workshops provide an opportunity for children on the spectrum to benefit from creative activities such as drawing, painting, and sculpting. Scheduled dates for 2011 are: Sept. 17, Oct. 15, and Nov. 19 from 11
