This year, as Ramsey prepares to mark the Tenth Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, officials will also break ground on a memorial that will honor the three borough residents who went to work that day, but never returned. Plans call for the memorial to be installed at the south end of Finch Park. The borough has planned a peaceful and moving memorial event and the groundbreaking for Sunday, Sept. 11. The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. at Finch Park, by Gertzen Plaza, in Ramsey. The Ramsey Wind Symphony will be on hand. Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta said the memorial is still in the planning stages, and the conceptual designs have yet to be released to the general public. However, he did say, “The memorial will contain an artifact from the World Trade Center site, and a plaque that was prepared for the one-year anniversary of 9/11.” Mayor Botta credited Councilman Harry Weber with doing a great deal of legwork for the memorial project. Botta said the borough has assembled a crew of volunteers, and contractors who will donate equipment for this project. Architect Eric Kiellar provided the plans for the new memorial.
