Kevin H. McVey of Ho-Ho-Kus died Oct. 19. He was 83. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He attended art school and became an illustrator for Ted Bates Advertising Agency in New York. Soon after, he began a career as a newspaper cartoonist, working for The Record for 27 years, retiring in 1989 as an award-winning theatrical caricaturist and special features artist. He also was a court room sketch artist, and a sports and editorial cartoonist at The Record. He is survived by his children Kitt Cela of East Hampstead, New Hampshire and Christopher of Ho-Ho-Kus, two grandchildren, and his sister Joan Kahn of Baltimore, Maryland. He was predeceased by his wife Betty. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Memorial donations may be made to the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 81, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423. Jerry (Foz) Meyer of Neptune, formerly of New York City and Ridgewood, died Oct. 16. He was 78. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Anne Murphy Ritzel of Mahwah died Oct. 14. She was 70. She had been a Realtor with Coldwell Banker, and previously with Murphy Real Estate. She taught at Saint Catharine School in Glen Rock for many years. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Mahwah, where she was a Eucharistic minister. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Martin of Mahwah, three grandchildren, her brother Joseph J. Murphy, Jr., and her friend Paul Wickenheiser. She was predeceased by her son Michael Ritzel and daughter Dorothy Richmond. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Roedel, nee Prester, of Wyckoff, formerly of Lakehurst, died Oct. 18. She was 99. She is survived by her children Phyllis Goodman of Ridgewood and Paul Roedel Jr. of Fairfield, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her brother Stephen. She was dedicated to many charitable organizations and served for several years on the board of the Jewish Family Service of North Jersey. She is survived by her husband Eugene, her children Martin Rosensweet, Fran and Howard Ruff, and Ellen and Miles West, five grandchildren, and her brother Michael Moskow. Maryke Schneider of Ho-Ho-Kus died Oct. 13. She was 69. Born in Hilversum, Holland, she lived in Midland Park before moving to Ho-Ho-Kus. She was the co-owner of the Ridgewood Corset Shop in Ridgewood since 1977. She is survived by her husband Grant H. of Ho-Ho-Kus, her sons Grant II of Alexandria, Virginia and Eric of Westwood, and four grandchildren. Swist, nee Bozymowski, of Wyckoff, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, died Oct. 17. She was 101. Before retiring in 1975, she was a factory worker for Austin, Nichols & Co. in Maspeth, New York. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony’s R.C. Church in Brooklyn, where she was a member of the parish senior center. She was a member of the Greenpoint Senior Citizens Club. She is the Past Worthy Matron of Fortitude Chapter #161 Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her children Robert, Valerie Cates, and Lauren White, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her first husband Thomas G. Wood, her second husband Anthony Cohill, and her son Thomas. Arrangements were made by Martin Mortuary in Colorado. James Walter “Jim” Young of Fair Oaks, California, formerly of Upper Saddle River, died Oct. 17. He was 62. He was a U.S. military veteran. He was a member of the first graduating class of Northern Highlands High School, where he was captain of the football team and co-captain of the basketball team. He was the owner of the Emery Winslow-West Scale Company and served on its board of directors. He was a member of the New Apostolic Church. He was a member of the Rollingwood Racquet Club. He is

(continued from page 12) Chris Christie hit the ground running with environmental attacks. The NJ Sierra Club published a list of legislative endorsements for this election year. Endorsements avoid favoring one political party over the other. The only thing that counts is concern for protecting the environment. This list is in the October-December issue of “The Jersey Sierran.” There are 18 endorsements. Only two endorsements go to Republicans. Sixteen go to Democrats. Money can’t buy health, but money can and does buy pollution. GOP once stood for The Grand Old Party of Lincoln. Sadly the GOP has become Good Old Pollution. The record is clear. Sidney J. The recipient of this prestigious honor will receive a $10,000 college scholarship for a student at the high school from which the superintendent graduated.
