On Friday, Oct. 14 the Ramsey Board of Education and the community will honor the memory of friend, teacher, coach, and athletic director, Lou Molino, by dedicating the Ramsey High School Athletic Complex in his memory. Ramsey High School Principal Richard S. Lio said, “Lou has been a staple in Ramsey for 48 years. Like most coaches, he started out as an assistant coach in track and field and basketball, then became head coach for track, and continued to be an assistant basketball coach. Then he became athletic director. The consistency of our program is a direct result of Lou’s hands-on approach to athletics at Ramsey High School. He not only touched the lives of Ramsey athletes, but was so active in Bergen County. That is really his legacy. The outpouring of love and affection at his passing was amazing. He was a teacher first, then a coach, then athletic director, track official, and mentor. He worked with young coaches and athletes.

As much as he bled blue and gold, he also helped other athletes in the county. Lio added that the Big North AllSports Banner, which recognizes athletes throughout the league, was named the Lou Molino Sports Banner by the league’s committee. “That speaks very much of Lou’s influence. He had a soft spot for track and field, but he was proud of all sports.” Molino grew up in Ridgewood and was a long-time resident of Ramsey. He died suddenly on Super Bowl Sunday 2011. He is survived by his wife, Janet, who will be present at the ceremony on Friday. “The reason we’re calling it the Lou Molino Athletic Complex is because of his number of years as an athletic director,” Lio explained. “He oversaw the entire sports program. He loved all the other sports, so all of our facilities, our gyms and fields, are part of the complex.
That also speaks to his ability to touch so many different areas.” Molino served the Ramsey Public Schools and community for over 48 years. During his tenure, he established himself as one of the most successful track and cross country coaches in Bergen County history. His teams garnered numerous league, county, and state awards. Molino has been recognized as Bergen County Coach of the Year, YMCA Man of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year, and Track Official of the Year. The dedication ceremony will be held at half-time of the football game versus Fort Lee on Oct. 14. Game time is 7 p.m. and the dedication will take place at approximately 8:15 p.m. Alumni athletes who were coached by Molino, or those in the community who knew him, are encouraged to wear blue and gold and come out to attend this special evening.
