Volunteers host 31 Cent Scoop Night The Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department will hold “31 Cent Scoop Night” at Baskin Robbins at the Interstate Shopping Mall on Franklin Turnpike on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. On that date, Baskin Robbins will again be supporting the department’s annual fire prevention effort as it offer scoops of ice cream for only 31 cents. The firefighters will be on hand to answer questions, hand out fire safety information, and assist in demonstrations and activities for children. UNICO to host Wine Tasting The Greater Ramsey Chapter of UNICO National will host its Third Annual Charity di Vino Wine Tasting on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. This year’s event will feature a cookoff competition by celebrity chefs and music provided by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to 100+ wines served by Super Cellars of Ridgewood, there will be prizes, an auction, vendors, and pasta stations. Desserts will include cakes and cannolis. Tickets are $70 per person in advance ($85 at the door). Purchase five tickets, and receive a sixth one free. Tickets may be purchased online at www.grunico.org. All proceeds from this event will benefit Ramsey UNICO charitable causes and will be shared among Hearts & Crafts Counseling, Meaningful Movements, Meals on Wheels, and The Center for Food Action. Schulz takes gardeners ‘Beyond Daffodils’ Janet Schulz will present “Beyond Daffodils” to the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6:46 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue. With over 40 years of experience in garden centers, Schulz is a horticultural lecturer, teacher, and Master Gardener. She is president of the Wyckoff Area Garden Club and a director of the New Jersey Garden Club. She is a past director of the State Hosta Society and the Rock Garden

Adorno Fathers hold special fundraiser The Adorno Fathers in Ramsey is sponsoring a special contest featuring cash prizes. The contest includes three cash prizes: $2,500 for first prize, $1,500 second prize, and $1,000 for third prize. Tickets are $10 each; only 1,000 tickets are available. Market to feature Wellness Day The Ramsey Farmers Market will host its Second Annual Wellness Day on Sunday, Oct. 16. Information about general wellness, including yoga, wellness, massage therapy, nutrition, and more will be available under the large tent at the market. Cynthia Summers will entertain and Miss Lorraine will offer a special children’s activity. New fall hours for the market are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to join the Pay it Forward program by dropping off non-perishable food items at a designated market table. Along with donated produce and products from the vendors, all Pay it Forward donations will go to the Center for Food Action. Out-of-town visitors may pickup a complimentary map of Ramsey businesses that are open on Sunday and are within walking distance of the market. The Ramsey Farmers Market is sponsored by the Ramsey Historical Association. Visitors can discover the rich history of Ramsey’s farming past with purchase of the RHA’s publications “Images of America: Ramsey” by Ron Kase, and “Portraits of Ramsey” by Naoma Welk. The historic Ramsey Train Station, which was built in the 1840s, was the depot for local farmers who brought their produce for transport to Paterson and beyond. Club holds meeting, pumpkin painting The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey will hold an open meeting Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ramsey
Rescue building on Island Avenue in Ramsey. The JWCR serves and supports the community through volunteering, fundraising, and hosting social events. West Bergen offers Asperger’s workshops West Bergen Mental Healthcare, a non-profit counseling and psychiatric center, is offering a five-week workshop for siblings and cousins of children with Asperger’s and related diagnoses. The workshop is designed for children who are seven to 10 years old and will cover topics such as tolerance, coping strategies, focusing on strengths, disclosure, fairness, finding common ground, and more. The workshop will be held on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19 through Nov. 16 at West Bergen Center for Children and Youth, One Cherry Lane in Ramsey.
