Children invited to Touch a Truck The Ramsey Farmers Market will feature the Touch a Truck program sponsored by the Junior Woman’s Club on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Main Street train station parking lot. The event will feature fire engines, emergency and military vehicles, and much more. The event will be held in the southern parking lot behind the market. Guitarist Pete Holmgren will again be entertaining visitors to the market, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to join the Pay it Forward program by dropping off non-perishable food items at a designated market table. Along with donated produce and products from the vendors, all Pay it Forward donations will go to the Center for Food Action. Out-of-town visitors may pickup a complimentary map of Ramsey businesses that are open on Sunday and are within walking distance of the market. The Ramsey Farmers Market is sponsored by the Ramsey Historical Association. Visitors can discover the rich history of Ramsey’s farming past with purchase of the RHA’s publications “Images of America: Ramsey” by Ron Kase, and “Portraits of Ramsey” by Naoma Welk. The historic Ramsey Train Station, which was built in the 1840s, was the depot for local farmers who brought their produce for transport to Paterson and beyond. Marching band holds Hoagie Sale Members of the Ramsey High School Big Blue Marching Band and Color Guard will be ringing doorbells through Sunday, Oct. 9 as they take orders for the Annual Fall Hoagie Sale. Hoagies will be delivered on Saturday, Oct. 15. Proceeds from the sale help the band and guard travel to various competitions where they promote Ramsey as one of the finest high school bands in the tri-state area. Donations are always welcome. Optometrist to address parent group Dr. Joel Warshowsky, a pediatric behavioral and developmental optometrist, will address the support group for Ramsey and Saddle River parents of children with special needs on Monday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Dr. Warshowsky has over 30 years of experience and is
an associate clinical professor at SUNY College of Optometry. He will discuss behavioral optometry and vision therapy and offer holistic solutions for children with visual and subsequent behavioral needs. Vision therapy, a type of physical therapy for the eyes and brain, is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for many common visual problems such as visual inaccuracy, blurred vision, lazy eye, crossed eyes, double vision, convergence, insufficiency eye strain, and associated reading and learning disabilities. Christopher Morse, Ph.D. who will discuss his latest work, “The Difference Heaven Makes: Rehearing the Gospel as Good News” on Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. A Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair in Theology and Ethics at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, Dr. Morse is an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church. Knights to host Charity Golf Tournament The Ramsey Knights of Columbus will hold the Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Oct. 7 at the Wallkill Golf Club, 40 Sands Road, in Middletown, New York. The event will feature 18 holes of golf, a cart, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and an open bar. Prizes will be offered for a hole-in-one, longest drive, and closest to the pin. The event is $130 for golf, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Tickets for dinner guests are $30. The hole sponsor donation is $150. This outing is the chief source of support for the Knights of Columbus’ charities. Church in Ramsey will offer a Mass and healing service on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. The Rev. Father John Campoli, I.V. Del., will lead the group in prayer for healing the body, mind, and spirit. All are invited. Saint Paul’s is located at 200 Wyckoff Avenue. Ramsey Class of 1966 plans reunion Ramsey High School Class of 1966 will hold its 45th reunion Oct. 14, 15, and 16. This three-day event will include a Friday night get-together, a Saturday night buffet dinner dance, and Sunday brunch. The Class of 1966 has met regularly every five years since graduation. Table Tennis Club back in session The Ramsey Recreation Commission has announced that the Ramsey Table Tennis Club has resumed its Tuesday games. Ramsey adults of all skill levels are welcome. Play is open from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. at Eric S. Smith Middle School, 73 Monroe Street. Paddles and balls are available, but players are invited to bring their own equipment. Participation is free. Church marks special anniversary On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer will present a concert in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the church’s Peragallo pipe organ. This 4 p.m. concert will feature congregational, vocal, and choral music, and will include organ music from a variety of periods and styles to demonstrate the versatility of the instrument.
