Holiday Fair, special preview set Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Main Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will host its Holiday Fair on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 to 3 p.m. Admission is free. There will be crafts and shopping at the Holiday Dollar Parlor for children while parents select purchases from a wide variety of theme baskets and hand-crafted, high-quality holiday gifts. The fair will offer homemade gourmet foods, apple pies, and a large selection of baked goods. The Saint John’s Café will serve breakfast and lunch. On Friday, Nov. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m., a special preview will be offered. For a $7 donation, shoppers will get first dibs on fair items in addition to wine, hors d’oeuvres, and a special auction. Everything at the fair is made or donated by members of the church, including unique bargains at the Attic Treasures Boutique, note cards, wreaths, and table-top holiday trees. Farmers Market to host Artisans’ Corner Back by popular demand, the Ramsey Farmers Market will host its third Artisans’ Corner on Sunday, Nov 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Street train station. Several area artists and crafters will display their works for visitors to begin holiday shopping. The Ramsey Historical Association, sponsors of the market, will also have “Portraits of Ramsey” by Naoma Welk on sale. Apples, pears, greens, cauliflower, broccoli, and many other root vegetables are still in abundant supply. Over two dozen vendors will be selling artisanal breads, cheeses, gourmet nuts, coffee, tea, honey, gluten-free baked products, fish, wine, spices, homemade pastas, and chili, and much more each Sunday. Ms Lorraine will be back with another clever children’s craft. The market will remain open through Nov 20. Thanksgiving Day Drive announced On Nov. 18, Ramsey Responds will hold its annual Thanksgiving Day Drive to provide food and gift cards to community members in need. Food donations will be accepted from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center located in Finch Park. Items will be distributed to local families later that day.

Ramsey Responds, a non-profit volunteer organization, is dedicated to helping to serve those members of the community who are in need of assistance. Ramsey Responds has provided residents and recipients with food, clothing, household items, and financial assistance to help pay medical, rent, temporary housing, and utility bills. Book group to discuss McCullough novel First Presbyterian Church’s Literary Ladies will discuss “The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris” by David McCullough on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. in the McDermott Room. This night time walking mall will begin at 6 p.m. and the parade will start at 7:15 p.m. from Dater School. Community and school groups are invited to enter a float in the parade. Hackensack Riverkeeper to address Garden Club Hackensack Riverkeeper Captain Bill Sheehan will present a virtual tour of the Hackensack River to the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6:45 p.m. Captain Sheehan, an active conservationist, founded the Hackensack Riverkeeper program in 1997 and serves as its executive director. He holds a Master of Inland Waterways license from the U.S. Coast Guard and serves on the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Citizens Advisory Committee. The public is invited to attend the first portion of the meeting, which features the speaker. The group meets at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey. Pancake Breakfast fundraiser set On Sunday, Nov. 20, Chili’s Restaurant, 900 Route 17 North in Ramsey, will sponsor an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast to benefit the Ramsey Girl Scouts. Break-
fast, which will be served from 7 to 11 a.m., will include pancakes, bacon, coffee, tea, and juice. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the door. Registration under way at play center Registration for the winter season at The New Park ‘N Play, an indoor play center located in Ramsey, is open and may be completed at www.thenewparknplay.com. Open to all children from newborn to age six, The New Park ‘N Play offers unlimited play from Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Membership is $225 per family. Registration forms are available online at www.thenewparknplay.com. During the week of Nov. 7, the center will offer a free Open House to prospective families. The New Park ‘N Play, a non-profit organization run by volunteer parents, provides a creative, safe, and clean indoor play center for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Van Kampen is a Girl Scout leader for Troop 4336 in Ramsey and helped bring Relay for Life, a fundraiser for cancer research, to her hometown. She is also involved in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The National American Miss Pageants are dedicated to celebrating America’s greatness and encouraging its future leaders. Each year, the National American Miss Pageants award $1.5 million in cash, scholarships, and prizes to recognize and assist the development of young women nationwide. This year, each national pageant participant will have an opportunity to win a 2011 Ford Mustang convertible. The pageant program is based on inner beauty, poise, presentation, and offers an “All American Spirit” of fun for family and friends. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals. The pageant seeks to recognize the accomplishments of all participants while also encouraging them to set goals for the future.
