Christmas Craft Fair set Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 125 Glasgow Terrace in Mahwah, will host a Christmas Craft Fair on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature a variety of vendors offering handmade crafts and gifts and food. Veterans Day Service set The Township of Mahwah will hold a Veterans Day Service on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Franklin Turnpike. This event is sponsored by the Mahwah Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7124 and the Mahwah Recreation Department. All are invited. Support Our Troops fundraiser set On Thursday, Nov. 10, the Mahwah Bar and Grill at 2 Island Road will host its Fifth Annual Support Our Troops Night to benefit the Mahwah Marine Moms/North Jersey Military Moms. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Mahwah Municipal Building located at 475 Corporate Drive. Club to present ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ The Mahwah High School Drama Club, under the direction of Jean Johnson, will present William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” beginning Nov. 2, with a free performance for senior citizens at 4 p.m. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 5. A 2 p.m. matinee will be presented on Sunday, Nov. 6; and a special youth version will be on stage at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. Tickets for the regular performances are $12 for adults and $7 for students. The youth performance has been shortened and geared toward younger children. Hockey team collects for troops The Mahwah High School Hockey Team and the Mahwah Marine Moms will be collecting items for care packages for military personnel serving overseas at the Mahwah A&P on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Team members will distribute wish lists to shoppers on their way into the store. Purchased items may be dropped in the collection box at the store’s exit. The Mahwah Marine Moms group is comprised of individuals whose family members are serving in the military overseas. Steinbeck novel to be discussed The Mahwah Public Library’s Classic Book and Film Society will meet on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. This month’s selection is John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men.” The group will discuss the book this month and will watch and discuss the film version next month. The club is facilitated by Mahwah resident Carolyn Epstein, a teacher with Saint Thomas Aquinas College’s English/writing department; and Rich Thielker, who taught film and literature and the history of film at Pascack Valley High School and at Pascack Valley Community School. Dear Editor: Chuck Jandris was appointed to the council after the March 31 meeting when the council voted 4-2 in favor of the mall. Jandris did not take part in the vote and has said he would have abstained because he was not privy to all the information the council had. I felt very comfortable with his answer and his honesty. I appreciated his integrity when he said he would not vote on an issue where he did not have all the facts. Chuck has been on the planning board for 12 years and is very familiar with all the objections the planning board had on the mall plans and the inconsistencies the mall (continued on page 29)
