November 2, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 21 Ramsey Review Hackensack Riverkeeper to address Garden Club Hackensack Riverkeeper Captain Bill Sheehan will present a virtual tour of the Hackensack River to the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6:45 p.m. Captain Sheehan, an active conservationist, founded the Hackensack Riverkeeper program in 1997 and serves as its executive director. He holds a Master of Inland Waterways license from the U.S. Coast Guard and serves on the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Citizens Advisory Committee. The public is invited to attend the first portion of the meeting, which features the speaker. The group meets at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey. Pancake Breakfast fundraiser set On Sunday, Nov. 20, Chili’s Restaurant, 900 Route 17 North in Ramsey, will sponsor an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast to benefit the Ramsey Girl Scouts. Breakfast, which will be served from 7 to 11 a.m., will include pancakes, bacon, coffee, tea, and juice. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the door. Group to discuss ‘Mr. Rosenblum’ The Connections Book Group at the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will discuss “Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English” by Natasha Solomons on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The discussion will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Metzger Room of the church at 15 Shuart Lane. Copies of the book are available at the Ramsey Library. All are welcome. The first program, an evening with Shira, a pet psychic, will be presented Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. Shira has been known to help people understand their pets and has helped many with behavioral problems. Attendees are encouraged to bring in a photo of their pet to the program. On Dec. 1, start the holiday season smarter by attending “Power of Food Education: Making the Holidays Healthier” session with nutrition expert Robin DeCicco. DeCicco will share tips and pamphlets on how to avoid the typical seasonal weight gain many experience. Learn about Asperger’s disorders On Nov. 2, West Bergen Mental Healthcare’s Asperger’s Auxiliary will host a free panel discussion about Asperger’s and related disorders. The program will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 65 North Central Avenue in Ramsey. This event will feature a panel of experts in Asperger’s and related disorders. Panelists will provide brief summaries of their program or agency and ways their skills may assist families in navigating the maze of Asperger’s. There will be a question and answer period. Farmers Market includes activities, music The Ramsey Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Street train station, rain or shine. The market offers the freshest vegetables and pro- duce, artisanal breads, gluten-free baked goods, organic coffees and teas, homemade pastas, honey, jams, cheeses, gourmet nuts, and more. The historic Ramsey Train Station, which was built in the 1840s, was the depot for local farmers who brought their produce for transport to Paterson and beyond. Registration under way at play center Registration for the winter season at The New Park ‘N Play, an indoor play center located in Ramsey, is open and may be completed at www.thenewparknplay.com. Open to all children from newborn to age six, The New Park ‘N Play offers unlimited play from Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Membership is $225 per family. Registration forms are available online at www.thenewparknplay.com. During the week of Nov. 7, the center will offer a free Open House to prospective families. The New Park ‘N Play, a non-profit organization run by volunteer parents, provides a creative, safe, and clean indoor play center for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
