Cull will be retiring from his active priestly ministry on July 1, 2011 after 42 years of serving Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Newark. On June 12, the Saint Paul community will honor Msgr. Cull with a Mass of Thanksgiving at noon and a reception following immediately in the parish gymnasium. A native of Oradell, Msgr. Cull is the son of the late Thomas and Florence Cull. After his graduation from River Dell High School, he continued his education at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University, Weston School of Theology, and the Vatican Institute in Menlo Park, California. Msgr. Cull was ordained in May of 1969, and was assigned as parochial vicar at Saint Paul Church, Ramsey. He served there until 1983. This was the first of what was to be two assignments at Saint Paul’s. While there he worked with three pastors who were his mentors. Monsignor Lester Quinn, Father James O’Neill, and Monsignor James Burke were examples of pastoral ministry for Cull. Upon leaving Ramsey, he was at Ascension Church in New Milford, where he served as parochial vicar until 1985. He was named pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Edgewater and then pastor of Saint Michael’s Church in Cranford. To the delight of the parishioners of Saint Paul’s in Ramsey, Cull returned to the parish as pastor in 2001. He recently announced his impending retirement and was appointed pastor emeritus of Saint Paul’s. Under Cull’s guiding hand, the congregation has grown to 3,300 families with 10,000 parishioners. A broad range of spiritual, liturgical, educational programs enhance the worship experience of the community. Saint Paul’s Church is renowned for the people’s generosity to those in need.
