Ramsey
Five Boy Scouts from Ramsey’s Troop 31 have achieved Eagle Scout status, the highest award a Boy Scout can attain. The five, who were recognized at a joint Court of Honor, include Christopher Joseph Bailey, Nicholas Cicciari, Christopher Paul Keosayian, Michael McMahon, and Nathanael Troyer. Christopher Joseph Bailey Bailey’s became a Tiger Cub with Pack 306 in 1999. He advanced through the ranks and successfully reached the level of Webelos Scout while earning his Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting. In 2004, Bailey joined Troop 31. He achieved the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life. He completed 24 merit badges, numerous hours of community service and held the leadership ranks of assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and troop guide. He attended summer camps with the troop to No-Be-Bo-Sco and Camp Keowa. He especially enjoyed the canoeing trips with Mr. Watters and received his 50 Miler Award by canoeing a total of 50 miles over a five-day Christopher Joseph Bailey period. His other favorite adventures included Mr. Rutkowski’s trips to Lake Sebago in Maine and to Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Bailey’s Eagle Project consisted of building and installing several bat houses throughout Ramsey. By providing shelter for bats, he hopes to preserve the existing bat population. Because bats are predators of insects, the bat houses foster natural insect control and reduce the need for pesticides. After obtaining permission from the borough, Bailey obtained donations of materials from local merchants, Diamond Tech, Hansen Custom Homes, and the Ramsey PBA. Over the course of four days, six houses were built and placed in three locations around Ramsey.
