Struyk, CPA, LNHA, Christian Health Care Center president and CEO, recently received the Distinguished Administrator Award of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Health Care Administrators. In the 17 years Struyk has led CHCC, he has presided over a period of significant expansion. The center enhanced its nursing-home facilities, expanded its Struyk receives Distinguished Administrator Award psychiatric hospital, built a 90-bed assistedliving facility, developed affordable independent senior housing on campus, and enhanced the professional staff. The center now employs approximately 850 individuals in all areas of service to the elderly and mentally ill. “Doug keeps the board of trustees well informed and solicits their expertise,” said Sandra DeYoung, EdD, RN, chair, CHCC Board of Trustees, and dean, College of Science and Health, William Paterson University. “The ability to work with all members of the CHCC organization is one of the hallmarks of Doug Struyk’s leadership.” Struyk is known as a tireless advocate for the elderly and mentally ill and expends his energies not only in his own facility, but across the state and the country. He is often in Trenton and Washington, DC, working to secure the resources needed for the delivery and accessibility of high-quality health care for the elderly and mentally ill. He is also a recognized leader in New Jersey as the immediate past chair of the Leading Age New Jersey (formerly the New Jersey Association of Homes and Services for the Aging). He is also a board member of Washington, D.C.-based Leading Age (formerly the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging), board member of the New Jersey Hospital Association Health Research and Educational Trust, and chair of the board of directors of the Wayne Senior Citizens Runnymede Corporation (also known as Sisco Village). In 2006, Struyk was invited to serve on the prestigious Federal Medical Advisory Commission, appointed by United States Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt. Struyk is also very active in his community serving on the Finance Committee of the Pompton Reformed Church, as treasurer of the Wayne Soccer Club, and previously as a commissioner with the Bergen County Improvement Authority, and member of the Reformed Church of America Board of Benefit Services. He resides in Wayne with his wife and two daughters. This year is the centennial for the nonprofit CHCC, which provides a broad scope of mental-health and elder-care programs. The exhibit displays the many facets of architects’ creative talents in a format that best exemplifies their work and personalities, from sketches and renderings to photography and sculpture. The public is invited to visit the exhibit, which will remain open until May 14.
