Challenger James Meiman has won a seat on the Ramsey Board of Education, earning 1,124 ballots in last week’s election. Meiman edged out incumbent Keith Kaplan, who received 949 votes. Incumbents Laura Behrmann and Anthony Gasparovich were reelected with 1,234 votes and 1,067 votes, respectively. Ramsey voters also approved the $46,954,695 tax levy associated with the school district’s $54,194,441 budget for 2011-12. The tally was 1,239 votes in favor of the tax levy and 750 opposed. “I’m thankful for the support and endorsements of a lot of good friends in town,” Meiman said after the election. “I worked harder this year.” The trustee-elect ran for a seat on the board last year, but was not elected. Meiman said he went door to door this year, and found the experience rewarding. “There are a lot of people in town who

believe the same things I do, and want this district to remain strong and vibrant and do it as prudently as possible,” he said. He said he believes he will work well with the other members of the board, adding. “It’s in my DNA.” Meiman explained that he is the fourth of seven siblings. Meiman is a lifelong resident of Ramsey. He holds a BS in business administration from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York, and an MBA in management from William Paterson University. He is creative director of the Kanebridge Corporation’s marketing department. He is a volunteer coach and umpire for the Ramsey Baseball Association, and a parishioner at Saint Paul’s Church, where he has served as a reader and a religious education instructor. Meiman and his wife Linda are the parents of two. Their daughter is a graduate of Ramsey High School and their son is in fifth grade. Behrmann has earned a second term on the board. She serves as chair of the Community Action Committee and works closely with the PTOs. She has served on the Finance, Technology, Cafeteria, Student Activities, and Legislative committees during the course of her tenure. She is currently a member of the Community Alternative Revenue Education Committee, seeking to find alternative revenue sources for the district. She is also president of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps and presidentelect of the Junior League of Bergen County. She previously served as a Commissioner of the Department of Public Works. Behrmann was born and raised in Bergen County and graduated from Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes. She and her husband Brian, a lifelong Ramsey resident, have a two-year-old son. She graduated from Drew University
with a bachelor’s in psychology, cum laude, and Seton Hall University School of Law with a JD. She is an attorney admitted to the New Jersey Bar, the New York Bar, the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, and the United States Supreme Court. She is an assistant vice president with Chartis Insurance in Jersey City. Gasparovich will now begin his fourth term on the board of education. Born in New York and raised in Palisades Park, he moved to Ramsey in 1993. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from Rutgers University. He is a vice president and partner at Reiner Group, Inc., a mechanical contracting and engineering firm based in Fair Lawn. He and his wife Rose have two sons. He is currently chairman of the board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee and chair (continued on page 23)
