ESL tutor training available Ramsey residents who are interested in becoming ESL (English as a Second Language) tutors are invited to the next training workshop at the Westwood Public Library on Tuesday, April 5, 12, 19, and 26, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley, this training prepares tutors to teach adults to speak and read English. All books and supplies are furnished free of charge for those tutoring for LV-PV, which includes the libraries of Ramsey, Dumont, Emerson, Hillsdale, Lodi, Montvale, Paramus, Park Ridge, River Vale, Township of Washington, Upper Saddle River, and Westwood. Spring Boutique and Luncheon set Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church, located on the corner of Main Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will host its annual Spring Boutique and Luncheon on Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Available for purchase are handcrafted and one-of-akind Easter and spring items such as Easter cards, note cards, specialty baked items, novelty items for Easter baskets, quilts and quilted table toppers, hand-knitted items, egg trees, floral wreaths, stained glass items, wooden lawn eggs, hand-dipped Easter chocolates, unique home and garden decorations, plus other ornamental gift items. Foundation plans Spring Dinner Dance The Ramsey Public Education Foundation host a Spring Dinner Dance at The Knights of Columbus in Ramsey on Saturday, April 30 from 7 to 11 p.m. The event will feature a buffet dinner and drinks, music, an auction, cash prize contest, and prizes. Proceeds will support enrichment programs and technology at the public schools. Tickets for the event are $65 per person. Checks made

Women invited to networking session Fieldstone Fine Art will host a Women Empowering Women Networking event on Tuesday, March 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 147 East Main Street in Ramsey. Lenten Spaghetti Dinner set A Lenten Spaghetti Dinner will be held at the Adorno Fathers’ Center, 575 Darlington Avenue, on Friday, April 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. A donation of $10 per person is requested. Children under age 8 will be admitted free. The menu will include clam and marinara sauces, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Music will be provided by the priests and brothers of the Adorno Fathers. Tickets will be sold at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Adorno Fathers Seminary in Ramsey. Fall soccer registration underway The Ramsey Recreation Soccer Association will hold registration for the fall season on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Finch Park. Mickel to present lecture on ferns John Mickel, an internationally recognized scientist, horticulturalist, and author, will present “Great Ferns for New Jersey Gardens” to the Ramsey Area Garden Club on Tuesday, April 12. The meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Dr. Mickel has been curator at the New York Botanical Garden since 1969. He is also founder of the New York Fern Society. The public is invited to the portion of the meeting which

Parade plans announced The Ramsey Baseball and Softball Association will kickoff the recreational baseball and softball season with the annual parade on Saturday, April 16. The parade route will be along Main Street to Finch Park, where opening day ceremonies will be held. The parade will step off at 9 a.m. on the corner of Mechanic and Main streets. Senior news The Ramsey Senior Center will host a trip to NJPAC in Newark to see a matinee performance of “A Chorus Line” on Thursday, April 28. Sign-up at the borough hall will begin Monday, April 4 at 10 a.m. The excursion costs $55 and includes transportation, lunch at the Theatre Square Grill in the NJ Performing Arts Center, and the show. Checks may be made payable to Borough of Ramsey. Proof of residency is required. Seniors are invited to Andree’s Arthritis Exercise class held on Mondays and Fridays at 3:30 p.m. at the center. Sign-up is not necessary, but space is limited. If there is adequate interest, additional classes will be held. The bocce boys are eager to get started when the weather allows. Leisure Club offers casino trip The Ramsey Leisure Club has planned a May 3 bus trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Included will be a visit to the Banana Factory.
