Cookbook now available The families of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Nursery School in Mahwah have organized a cookbook featuring their favorite recipes. “A Taste of Heaven” will be available in late spring. The cookbook, containing 425 mouth-watering recipes, costs $20. To reserve a copy, call Brenda Calandrillo at (201) 8189668. Proceeds will go toward the acquisition of audio equipment for the church and nursery school and toward the church’s outreach programs. Chamber hosts annual meeting The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Meeting and Luncheon on March 23. The luncheon, which is open to Chamber members and non-members, will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel, One International Boulevard in Mahwah. The annual meeting, which is open to members only, will follow from 1:30 to 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Deborah Richin, financial advisor. At the lunch, attendees will network, and welcome new board members. At the annual meeting, members will meet the new board of directors and learn what is in store for the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2011. The executive board and vice presidents will make a brief presentation, followed by question and answer period. Members in attendance will receive the new 2011 Cham-
ber Directory and Buyer’s Guide. Cost for the luncheon portion of the afternoon is $35 for Chamber members and $50 for non-members. Prepaid registration is required; an additional $5 processing fee will be charged if paid the day of event. Golf Outing planned A 2011 Golf Tournament for Denan is planned for April 25 at the Apple Ridge Country Club, 269 East Crescent Avenue in Mahwah. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. with tee off at 9 a.m. A banquet including special fundraisers, an auction, and prizes, will follow. The special guest host will be Chris Wragge, co-anchor of “The Early Show.” Proceeds will go toward The Denan Project. This nonprofit, grassroots organization’s volunteers secure the resources to provide free medical care, potable water, agricultural training, education, and other critical services for the people of Denan, Ethiopia and the surrounding villages, and to other impoverished communities in the developing world. School hosts Art Show & Benefit Dinner Young World Day School will hold its Annual Art Show Open House featuring students’ work March 21 through
25 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the school, 585 Wyckoff Avenue in Mahwah. Parents of children age two through grade five are invited to tour the art show, learn about the school, visit classes, and hear about the school’s programs. Young World Day School offers traditional and Montessori instruction, and includes an all-day kindergarten. The artwork, along with approximately 70 baskets and prize items, will be auctioned at the annual fundraising dinner at Seasons in Washington Township on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. Both the Annual Art Show and the dinner are open to the public. Sherlock Holmes radio broadcast performed The New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s The Stages Festival and Family Week at the Theatre will present “Sherlock Holmes: Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle” on Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road. Craig Wichman, founder and producer of Quicksilver Radio Theater, adapted this program from the work by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Step back in time as The East Lynne Theater Company presents this tale in the style of a vintage radio broadcast, complete with live sound effects and commercials, just like the Sherlock Holmes radio series on NBC that premiered on Oct. 20, 1930. This program is free. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. For details, contact the library at (201) 529-READ. Women’s suffrage discussed Charles F. McSorley will present “The Suffragette Movement: How Women Won the Vote” on Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library. The program will include a lecture and slide presentation using postcards and memorabilia to offer insight into how American women were regarded as they struggled to win the right to vote. The program is free. No registration is necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. The library is located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah. This program is offered through the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Class of 1962 seeks classmates The Mahwah High School Class of 1962 is searching for classmates for the upcoming 50th reunion. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bon Appétit Tea House, 180 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah. Enjoy High Tea, which features a unique menu and a selection of teas. The cost for this event is $30 for Chamber members and $45 for non-members. Attendees may bring a business colleague or friend for an opportunity to win a door prize. Women invited to morning of reflection The Church of the Immaculate Conception will offer a morning of prayer, reflection, and discussion on the meaning of work for women on Saturday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Under discussion will be work, both in and outside of the home, paid and unpaid, and how it can be a spiritual endeavor and a way to grow in faith. Issues of work-life balance, stress, and disappointments will also be addressed. Julie V. Burkey, M.A.P.M. and director of the Center for Workplace Spirituality at Seton Hall University’s Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology will be the guest presenter. Burkey is currently pursuing a doctor of ministry degree at the Catholic University of America.
