Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • March 16, 2011 Ramsey Review Resident needs organ transplant Ramsey Responds is helping to publicize the need for an organ donor for a borough resident who is in need of a kidney transplant. To help, contact Ramsey Responds at (201) 312-4842. Ramsey Responds, a non-profit volunteer organization, is dedicated to helping members of the community who are in need. The organization provides food, clothing, household items, and financial assistance to help pay medical, rent, temporary housing, and utility bills. Ramsey Responds works closely with the police, fire, ambulance, and rescue services, and civic organizations and churches in town. Ramsey Cleanup Day set The Ramsey Environmental Commission will hold its annual Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Rain date: April 10.) A light breakfast will be available at 9:30 a.m. Participants may sign up at the Ramsey Rescue Building on South Island Avenue, where they will receive supplies for the day. Seniors announce upcoming events Members of the Ramsey Seniors group are invited to borough hall to sign up for spring yoga. The cost is $10. Class will begin March 25. The knitting and crocheting group is seeking donations of yarn. Yarn may be brought to the center in Finch Park or to borough hall. Items produced by the group are delivered to hospitals, veteran headquarters, and to Ramsey Responds. The group meets on Mondays at 1:30 p.m. in the center. New members are welcome. Nominations for new committee members are now underway. Anyone interested in becoming involved with the annual planning of activities is welcome to attend the committee meetings held on the second Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in the center. Sunday Movies with Marge are shown at 1 p.m. This month’s movies include, “An Education” on March 20, and “The Social Network” on March 27. The trip will include visits to the International Tattoo Show, which features marching bands and precision drill teams; a visit to the Norfolk naval base; a botanical garden tram tour; a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk; and NATO-sponsored activities. Book group to discuss ‘Galileo’s Daughter’ The Connections Book Group of the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will meet March 15 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss “Galileo’s Daughter” by Dave Sobel. A cappella competition coming up Don Bosco Prep invites the community to a sing off competition among a cappella choruses from Saint Joseph’s University, Marist College, and Don Bosco Prep. The concert will take place on March 19 at 8 p.m. at Mary Help of Christians Chapel, Saint Johns Hall at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. An audience vote will determine the winner. Note: This competition, which had been scheduled for February, was postponed due to a snowstorm. The three a cappella groups will perform favorite pop and contemporary a cappella arrangements, among them “Drops of Jupiter” by Train, “Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé, “Hey Jealousy” by Gin Blossoms, and “Shout” by Otis Day and the Knights. The group 54th and City, made up of 10 male students from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, will compete against Time Check, the only all-male a cappella group from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Members in each of these groups are Don Bosco Prep alumni. The Don Bosco Prep Chorus will also compete against these collegiate groups, singing a cappella arrangements of “In My Life” by the Beatles and “Moondance” by Van Morrison.
