Chamber hosts annual meeting The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Meeting and Luncheon on March 23. The luncheon, which is open to Chamber members and non-members, will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel, One International Boulevard in Mahwah. The annual meeting, which is open to members only, will follow from 1:30 to 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Deborah Richin, financial advisor. At the lunch, attendees will network, and welcome new board members. At the annual meeting, members will meet the new board of directors and learn what is in store for the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2011. The executive board and vice presidents will make a brief presentation, followed by question and answer period. Members in attendance will receive the new 2011 Chamber Directory and Buyer’s Guide. Cost for the luncheon portion of the afternoon is $35 for Chamber members and $50 for non-members. Prepaid registration is required; an additional $5 processing fee will be charged if paid the day of event. Free tax program available AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service, will be available to taxpayers with low- and middle-income with special attention to those who are age 60 and older. Those seeking assistance should call to make an appointment and should bring previous tax returns, and information about their 2010 earnings including pensions, Form 1099’s, Social Security, and other supporting forms that apply. All homeowners and tenants must complete a New Jersey return, irrespective of their taxable income, if they wish to apply for the Fair Rebate. The ability to file most tax returns electronically will be available this year. Trained counselors from the AARP will be available in the Mahwah Senior Center on Mondays and Fridays through April 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (201) 529-5757, extension 213 or 277, to schedule an appointment. Museum trip for seniors offered The Mahwah Senior Center will sponsor a trip to The Emperor’s Private Paradise at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Tuesday, April 5. The excursion will include transportation by deluxe motor coach, admission into the exhibit, a guided tour of both the Met and the Cloisters, and lunch at Carmine’s on 91st Street. The cost for the day is $67. The loan exhibition, organized by the Peabody Essex Museum, presents 90 paintings, decorative works, architectural elements, and religious works created for an elaborate two-acre private retreat built deep within the Forbidden City in 1771 as the retirement residence of one of China’s most extravagant monarchs, the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1736–95), who presided over China’s last dynasty, the Qing, at the zenith of its power and wealth. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bon Appétit Tea House, 180 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah. Enjoy High Tea, which features a unique menu and a selection of teas. The cost for this event is $30 for Chamber members and $45 for non-members. Attendees may bring a business colleague or friend for an opportunity to win a door prize.

Chamber offers scholarship Applications are now available for the annual Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce scholarship to Ramapo College. The Chamber offers a $1,500 scholarship to students currently attending Ramapo College, or those who plan to enter Ramapo in the 2011-12 school year. The scholarship is open to Chamber members and their children, employees of Chamber members and their children, and Chamber employees and their children. Applicants include high school seniors, Ramapo College students, or students transferring to Ramapo College. Application forms are available online at www.mahwah.com. Spiritual book group to discuss Lenten classic Not by Bread Alone, a spiritual book discussion group, will meet Sunday, March 20 at 5 p.m. at Panera Bread, 1300 Route 17 in Ramsey. This month’s selection is “The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness” by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. Recommended for Lenten reading, this classic work brings together Christ’s Sermon on the Mount with His Seven Last Words. From the Mount of the Beatitudes to the Hill of Calvary, Jesus’ public ministry and statements centered on the themes of love and forgiveness, which are explored with Archbishop Sheen’s insight and passion.
