Ramsey June 1, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 9 The Rev. Patrick F. Pindar Council #3962, Ramsey Knights of Columbus, will hold the 34th Annual Shield Awards presentation on Friday, June 10. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Council Hall at 48 Mechanic Street in Ramsey. This year’s recipients are: Lieutenant Sean Matro, Ramsey Ambulance Corps; Lieutenant Jonathan Krehel, Ramsey Fire Department; Stephen Goeller, RN, Ramsey Office of Emergency Management; Patrolman Paul Vas- Knights of Columbus to present 2011 Shield Awards sallo, Ramsey Police Department; and Lieutenant Richard VanDerWall, Ramsey Rescue Squad. “It is an honor to again be able to recognize our public safety personnel who do an excellent job safeguarding the residents of Ramsey. They perform a dangerous and demanding task, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Grand Knight/Shield Awards Committee Chairman Michael Adams said in announcing the awards. “We invite all members of the community, not just the families and colleagues of the honored recipients, to join us for the ceremony. We anticipate that several dignitaries, including our own mayor and council, will be making presentations that evening.” Event organizers, including Ralph Venturini and Kenneth Tyburczy, anticipate that Congressman Scott Garrett, State Senator Gerald Cardinale, Assemblypersons Charlotte Vandervalk and Robert Schroeder, County Executive Kathleen Donovan, Sheriff Michael Saudino, and Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta will attend the awards presentation. The Knights of Columbus Shield Awards were started in May 1977 to honor an outstanding member of the Ramsey Fire Department and the Ramsey Police Department. Over the years, the Ramsey Ambulance Corps, OEM, and Rescue Squad have been included. Each agency chooses its own recipient using various selection processes.
