Chamber plans networking event The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a business card exchange on Tuesday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is hosted by Key Bank, 59 Route 59, Suffern, New York. Bring plenty of business cards to share with new contacts from around the region. Refreshments will be available. The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. Gaines novel to be discussed Not by Bread Alone, a spiritual book discussion group, will meet on Sunday, June 26 at 5 p.m. at Panera Bread, 1300 State Route 17 in Ramsey. This month’s selection is “A Lesson before Dying” by Ernest Gaines. Set in a small Cajun community in the late 1940s, “A Lesson before Dying” is the story of a man condemned to die for a crime he did not commit and a young man who visits him in his cell. In the end, the two men forge a bond as they both come to understand the simple heroism of resisting and defying the expected. Foundation hosts Golf Classic The Mahwah Schools Foundation will hold its annual Golf Classic Monday, June 6 at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club in Ramsey. The event will include brunch, practice, and shotgun tee-off. The Ladies’ Luncheon, with a sit down lunch, wine, door prizes, and contests, will feature award-winning author, lecturer, and TV personality Cathy Miller, who will demonstrate her floral design skills. The day will end with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner, awards, and fundraisers. Cub Pack 197 sets recruitment event Mahwah Cub Pack 197 invites elementary school boys to attend a recruitment event on June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the George Washington Elementary School cafeteria. The school is located at 39 Fardale Avenue, Mahwah. The Cub Scout program strives to combine fun with educational activities and teach life-long values. The organization places emphasis on building character, developing good citizenship, and enhanc-
ing both mental and physical fitness. In addition, the program provides boys with positive peer groups and tools to help shape their future. Boys who register will receive a free pack T-shirt. Clothing Closet plans Bag Sale The Clothing Closet Ministry, located at the Ramapo Reformed Church on 100 Island Road, will host its June Bag Sale on Saturday, June 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Select from a wide variety of clothing for adults and children, including T-shirts, shorts, jeans, shirts, blouses, dresses, sneakers, shoes, and more, for $3 per bag. Shoppers will receive a free jacket or coat with every bag of clothes purchased. The Clothing Closet is located at the rear of the Ramapo Reformed Church’s education building, on the corner of Island Road and West Ramapo Avenue in Mahwah. All proceeds from the sale benefit the ongoing community ministry of Ramapo Reformed Church. Special Mass to be celebrated The Church of the Immaculate Conception, 900 Darlington Avenue, will offer a Mass on Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. for those who have lost a child. Losing a child is a unique sorrow that can last a lifetime, but the experience can be a source of consolation to be in the company of others who share a similar kind of grief. This dramatic presentation portrays the experiences of Saint John as a follower of Jesus. Light refreshments will be provided after the program. No monetary collections will be taken. The cost is $35. Guest speaker Lovina Shoenmaker will offer insight into the world of tea. The Mahwah Branch is committed to fundraising for The Valley Hospital and providing special services to local families, and always welcomes new members. This year, the Valley Hospital Auxiliary announced its new pledge to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit and Valley Home Care’s Maternal Child Health.
