McMahon The owner of the Fletcher House at 103 Oweno Road in Mahwah has received the 2011 Mahwah Heritage Award for her work Handley’s builder, John Terpstra, the owner of Jay-Tee Homes, who supervised the restoration, for his attention to detail in retaining and restoring the historical features of the home. Shanley also acknowledged the architectural firm of Harsen & Johns of Morristown for the architectural design of the restoration. According to Shanley, the home was built in 1909 in the Cragmere section of the township in what she described as the Arts and Crafts style which was a popular architectural and furniture style of that time. Shanley explained that the identifying features of an Arts and Crafts house include the use of local natural materials, such as fieldstone foundations and chimneys, wood shingles, several hipped roofs, chestnut window and door trim inside, interior ceiling beams, exposed rafters in the porch roof and back roof, which extend out from the main roof, and multi-paned windows. At a recent township council meeting, Barbara Shanley, chairwoman of the Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission, presented the award to Suzanne Handley.
