Jones, who is presently serving his fifth year as a Ramsey councilman, is the governing body’s liaison to the board of health and the board of education. He has served as chairman of Health, Education, and Social Services and as chairman of Public Safety Committee. He has served on all of the council’s major committees, including those focusing on finance, building, and zoning. Jones is a former liaison to the Fine Arts Council, the Ramsey Environmental Commission, the Drug Alliance, and the Shade Tree Commission. Jones attended the East Rutherford public schools and Governing body names Jones 2011 council president graduated from Henry P. Becton Regional High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from William Paterson College (now William Paterson University). He is regional sales representative for Englewood Tire/Discount Tire Express, where he has also served as sales and marketing manager and director of operations. The new council president is married and has three children. He has been a Ramsey resident for 13 years and is a parishioner of Saint Paul’s Church. Jones has been an assistant coach for Ramsey Recreation Basketball & Baseball for 10 years. He has also coached softball for five years, soccer for two years, and flag football for one year. He was a member of the Ramsey Planning Board for three years and was first vice president of the Ramsey Republican Club for two years. Before he moved to Ramsey, Jones served nine years on the East Rutherford Council. He served on multiple committees in East Rutherford, and was council president for one year. He was also a member of the East Rutherford County Committee, the East Rutherford Recreation Commission, and the East Rutherford Zoning Board of Adjustment. He also served his former community for six years as a baseball coach and for eight years as a football coach. Ramsey Review Club plans meeting, Casino Night The Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey will meet Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ramsey Ambulance Corps Building, 41 South Island Avenue. New members are welcome. Please note: February’s meeting will be held on Wednesday instead of Thursday. Tickets for the Feb. 5 “Bet Your Lucky Stars Casino Night” are still available. The event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ramsey, and will include beer, wine, soda, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, coffee, and $25 in gaming chips. Admission is $65. Project Healthy Bones class to begin The Ramsey Board of Health, along with Hackensack University Medical Center’s Health Awareness Regional Program, will offer a new session of Project Healthy Bones in February. Project Healthy Bones, a 24-week exercise and educational program, is designed for men and women who have -- or are at risk of -- osteoporosis, a common medical problem in the later years. Exercises are directed toward improving muscle and bone strength, balance, and flexibility. The program stresses the importance of exercise, nutrition, safety, and lifestyle factors related to osteoporosis. The orientation for the new Project Healthy Bones class will be held at the Ramsey Senior Center at Finch Park on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 2:30 p.m. Residents may register for the program at that time and pick up a physician’s approval form. Space is limited and admission will be based on when completed physician approval forms are received. Project Healthy Bones classes are free. The one-hour classes are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the Senior Center. The current Tuesday Project Healthy Bones class will continue indefinitely. Hockey Association hosts Devils fundraiser The Ramsey Hockey Association has a limited number of tickets to the New Jersey Devils vs. Florida Panthers game at Prudential Center on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. On the program that day will be a special appearance by Ramsey’s Mites on Ice during the first intermission. Tickets are $39 (regularly $56.) Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the association.
