Ramsey UNICO has joined forces with Ramsey High School to deliver a creative solution to offset the devastating impact of the loss of 100 percent of aid from the State of New Jersey. The loss of state aid means the discontinuance of many extracurricular activates and clubs. This is not the case for the Italian-American Culture and Cooking Club at Ramsey High School. The Greater Ramsey UNICO Chapter members committed to funding the club for five years by providing $1,000 per year to ensure interested students can continue to actively learn about their Italian heritage and improve their Italian cooking techniques with the guidance of Tom D’Angelis, a Ramsey High School teacher who serves as the club’s moderator. Ramsey UNICO President Louis LaVigna said, “We are committed to supporting education opportunities for students while promoting Italian culture.” Ramsey Board of Education President John Nunziata cited the UNICO sponsorship as a model for community organizations to support educational programs. At a recent school board meeting, Nunziata recognized Greater Ramsey UNICO’s initiative and generosity. In addition to financially supporting this Ramsey High School program, Ramsey UNICO raises funds to support local organizations such as: Hearts and Crafts, Meals-onWheels, Woodlands Senior Center, Mahwah Center for Food Action, Meaningful Movements, and many others.
