The Ramsey Public Library announced last week that the construction crews are in the final stages of its renovation project. The library’s temporary location at 171 Lake Street, which opened in September 2009, will close on Wednesday, Feb. 23. At that time, library staff will pack up the Lake Street location in anticipation of the move back to the newly renovated library at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. “Our strategic plan declares, ‘The Ramsey Library’s mission is to enrich people’s lives and build community by providing resources and services to inform, educate, and entertain.’ While we don’t yet have an exact opening date, we can’t wait to welcome everyone to this beautifully renovated facility, designed to serve the entire borough,” Library Director Wendy B. Bloom said last week. Patrons are reminded that no electronic requests can

be processed at this time. All items charged out from the Ramsey Library will be automatically renewed until the end of March. No fines will be added for any Ramsey Library material charged out, so there is no need to return Ramsey items until the library reopens. Please note that items borrowed from other BCCLS libraries follow the overdue policies of the loaning library. BCCLS items may be returned to any other BCCLS library, or call the owning library for renewal. The Ramsey Library will be closed for approximately three weeks. During the time the Ramsey Library is closed, other BCCLS member libraries will be available for use. A Ramsey library card is necessary in order to borrow items and to use public access computers at other area libraries. The Wyckoff Library is scheduled to begin a construc-

Note: This competition, which had been scheduled for February, was postponed due to a snowstorm. The three a cappella groups will perform favorite pop and contemporary a cappella arrangements, among them “Drops of Jupiter” by Train, “Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé, “Hey Jealousy” by Gin Blossoms, and “Shout” by Otis Day and the Knights. The group 54th and City, made up of 10 male students from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, will compete against Time Check, the only all-male a cappella group

tion project in the coming weeks. Patrons are urged to call Wyckoff directly before going there. The Ramsey Library, which is approximately four decades old, will remain a 14,000 square foot structure, but the interior space has been reconfigured to enhance efficiency. The renovation project included the replacement of all the windows and doors, the replacement of the heating and air conditioning system with equipment that will save energy and space, ADA-compliant restrooms, redesigned areas for patrons of all ages, space for wireless computing, and the reconfiguration of the library entrances. New popular books and media will fill the open atrium of the library, and book stacks will be located along the sides of the building. A glass enclosed reading room will highlight the Wyckoff Avenue view. The updated program room will open directly into the children’s area for easy access to story times and crafts. The Ramsey Council awarded the library renovation contract to Aark Contractors, Inc. of Spring Valley, New York in 2009. The project is being funded by a $4,250,000 bond ordinance.
