Seniors announce upcoming events The Ramsey Seniors are planning a bus trip to Norfolk, Virginia from April 28 through May 1. The trip will include the Azalea Festival and Parade, a visit to Norfolk naval base, a botanical garden tram tour, a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk, NATO fest activities, and the Virginia International Tattoo Show, an unforgettable show with marching bands and precision drill teams. Tickets for the bus trip to New York City to see Broadway’s new show, “Wonderland,” on March 23 will be available on Monday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. at borough hall, 33 North Central Avenue, Ramsey. Tickets are $100 and include transportation, lunch at Lattanzi Restaurant, and the show. Checks may be made payable to the Borough of Ramsey. Proof of Ramsey residency is required. The show is a new spin on the classic story of Alice and her Looking Glass World. The modern-day woman goes on a lifechanging adventure below the streets of New York, where she rediscovers what is really important. Early sign-up is suggested as tickets are limited. The Sweetheart Luncheon will take place Feb. 14 at noon at the Adorno Fathers. This event is being hosted by Saint Paul’s Church. Reservations may be made by calling the parish center at (201) 327-0976. The cost of the luncheon is $8, which will be collected at the door. The event will feature beef vegetable soup, sandwiches, potato salad, dessert, and coffee. There will be music, dancing, prizes, and contests. Committee meetings are now held on the second Thursday of the month at Finch Park at 4 p.m. Anyone who is interested in volunteering on the various committees may attend. Harlem Wizards will return to Family Fun Night A high flying celebrity basketball game will be coming to town as the Ramsey DARE Dream Team battles the Harlem Wizards at Family Fun Night on Feb. 21. This event will begin at 6 p.m. at Don Bosco High School, 492 North Franklin Turnpike, Ramsey. The community is invited to support Team DARE’s allstar crew as they take on some of the most talented and entertaining basketball players around. This hilarious night is guaranteed to keep attendees talking for weeks. Proceeds benefit the Ramsey DARE program. Last year’s game quickly sold out all available seats, so be sure to order early. Tickets are now are available at Wireless World of Ramsey and Kings Pizza. Pre-event ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 15. Nursery representative to address Garden Club The Ramsey Area Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue. The group will hear a discussion by a retail nursery on how they select, propagate, grow, ship, and market plants. The first portion of the meeting, which features the speaker, is open to the public. The program will be held at Holiday Bowl in Oakland on Fridays at 4 p.m., beginning Feb. 11 and is open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Bumper bowling will be available for younger children. The cost of the program is $65 per participant. Registration forms are available in the municipal building, 33 North Central Avenue, or may be downloaded at www.ramseynj.com. All registration forms and fees are due by Wednesday, Feb. 9. Book groups plan discussions The Connections Book Group of the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will discuss “The Choral Thief” by Rebecca Stott on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Metzger Room. Texas Hold’em Tournament coming up The Ramsey Public Education Foundation will host its Second Annual Texas Hold’em Tournament at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club on Friday, March 4. Sign-in begins at 7 p.m., with an 8 p.m. deal. The cost is $130 per person and includes tournament chips, dinner, and drinks. All monies raised will support enrichment programs and technology no longer being funded by local and state budgets. Participants who RSVP by Feb. 8 will receive additional chips as a bonus. Table tennis players sought The Ramsey Table Tennis Club meets on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. at Eric S. Smith Middle School, 73 Monroe Street, off North Central Avenue. Sponsored by the Ramsey Recreation Commission, the club welcomes borough adults of all skill levels. Players are invited to bring their own paddles.
