Police Department Report Seven life-savers honored
On Dec. 1 at 12:07 p.m., a 22-year-old borough resident responded to the Ramsey Police Department to satisfy a traffic warrant. Officer Matt Rork processed the arrest. At 6:30 p.m. the same day, Officer Diane Bornkamp responded to a Ramsey Square business for a shoplifter in custody. At the conclusion of the investigation, a 34-yearold woman from Greenwood Lake, New York was arrested for shoplifting. Patrolman Erik Sanders was dispatched to Williams Drive to locate an alarm sounding in the area at 11:28 a.m. on Dec. 3. The vehicle was identified and an investigation was conducted. At the conclusion of the investigation, a 32-year-old man from Leonia was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. On Dec. 6 at 10:33 a.m., Patrolman Tim Shoemaker was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash near Lakeside Drive. At the conclusion of the crash investigation, a 72-year-old Ramsey man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. On Dec. 7 at 7:43 a.m., Patrolman Craig Weber was dispatched to a man sleeping in a vehicle on Broad Street. At the conclusion of the investigation, a 52-year-old Ramsey man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. At 9:31 a.m. the same day, Patrolman Weber was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Route 17 South. During the crash investigation, it was determined that one driver provided false information about the crash. A Somerset man, 51, was charged with hindering the investigation. On Dec. 9 at 4:56 p.m., Patrolman Anthony Fiore was dispatched to a Ramsey Square business for a shoplifter in custody. At the conclusion of the investigation, a Suffern, New York woman, 20, was arrested for shoplifting.

Officials: Stray cat had rabies
The Ramsey Health Department has reported that a stray cat recently tested positive for rabies. The cat was found Dec. 9 in the vicinity of South Central Avenue and Orchard Place. Residents are advised to report stray cats to Tyco, Ramsey’s Animal Control Company, at (201) 652-4554. To protect yourself and your pets from contracting rabies, avoid wildlife appearing to be ill or behaving abnormally - either
very aggressive or very lethargic, do not feed stray animals or leave uneaten pet food outdoors, and keep rabies vaccinations for pets up to date. The borough will offer its annual free rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ramsey Rescue Squad Building. Seven members of Ramsey’s emergency services were honored with Lifesaving Awards, which were presented by Mayor Christopher Botta and the borough council. The honorees included EMT Edward Przebieglec, EMT Alex Storzillo, EMT Peggy Warnet, Lieutenant Donald Evans of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps; and Ramsey Rescue Squad members Henry Berger, Richard VanderWall, and Thomas Bajec. The Ramsey Rescue Squad, which
has been serving the borough for 55 years, recently announced the election of the following officers: Chief Christopher Hoffman, Deputy Chief Zach Schleicher, Captain Brian Behrmann, First Lieutenant Thomas Carroll, Second Lieutenant Richard VanderWall, Third Lieutenant Anthony Sanchez, President Michael Adams, Vice President Henry Berger, Secretary Kelly Vriesema, Treasurer JoAnn Sanchez, and Trustees Robert Foster and Thomas Bajek.
