She was a member of the Republican Club of Mahwah and served as a county committeewoman for 30 years. She is survived by her children Geraldine Venino of Sea Girt, Robert Royce of Mahwah, Carolyn Hopper of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Pamela Roes of Princeton, eight grandchildren, and four greatgranddaughters. Mary Ann Shalhoub, nee Gissubel, of Mahwah, formerly of Sunrise, Florida, died Nov. 24. She was 86. She was a member of the Wilderness Trails and Canoe Club and a member of the Paramus Park Walkers Club. She was a member of an exotic plant and flowers club while living in Florida. She belonged to the Mahwah Senior Center and the choir at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Mahwah. She is survived by her children Jacqueline Shalhoub of Mahwah, Joanne Minard of North Carolina, Renee Shalhoub of Mahwah, and Raymond Shalhoub of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Angela “Nellie” Karpowich, nee Wozniak, of Mahwah died Nov. 29. She was 97. She graduated from Ramsey High School and was secretary and companion to Mrs. Annie C. Winter of Mahwah for many years. She was associated with the Mahwah Public Library in several capacities for 40 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church in Mahwah. LaBruna Eagle Scouts (continued from page 4) He spent five summers at Camp No-BeBo-Sco. He learned about being part of a community, life skills not taught elsewhere, and was exposed to a great variety of activities that broadened his horizons. For his Eagle Project, Shearer constructed planter benches for the public library and stained and repaired the existing gazebo. He obtained permission from Library Director Wendy Bloom and the library board and then solicited donations from Kuiken Lumber, Ferguson Enterprises, Ramsey Hardware, and Home Depot. He is especially grateful to Secor Farms for the donation of soil, fertilizer, and spring and summer flowers. The project was completed in two weekends with 179 man-hours. Shearer is a senior at Ramsey High School and a three-time recipient of the Scholastic “R” award. He is an avid member of the Chess Club and participates in Math League. He was inducted into the National Honor Society in his junior year. He is also a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He plans to major in game design and computer programming at college next year. Sisti joined Cub Scout Pack 175 in 1999. He received the Parvuli Dei religious emblem and the Arrow of Light before joining Troop 31 in 2004. It is within Troop 31 that Sisti discovered his leadership and teaching abilities. He continued to enjoy camping and discovered the rewards of being a volunteer by joining the yearly trip to Saint Ann’s in Newark to feed the homeless. He canoed the Pine Barrens, hiked the Boston Freedom Trail and Historic Philadelphia Trail, survived winter cabin camping, and looked forward to each summer’s high adventure trips. He also spent a week each summer at Boy Scout camp, his first summer at Ten Mile River and the following six summers at No-Be-Bo-Sco. He earned 25 Merit badges along the way.
