Holiday closings The Township of Mahwah’s municipal offices and recycling center will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day. Ainsworth to discuss ‘Triangle Shirtwaist Fire’ Tom Ainsworth will present “The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire -- March 25, 1911: The Fire that Awoke a Nation” on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library. The Triangle Shirtwaist Company, which occupied the top three floors of a 10story building in New York City, was consumed by fire. All told, 147 people, mostly women and young girls working in sweatshop conditions, lost their lives. As photos of the dead girls hit newspapers’ front pages across the nation, the public outcry became enormous. This disaster led to sweeping safety laws and regulations that remain in effect today. This program is free. Tickets and registration are not required. Seats are on a “first
come” basis. Call (201) 529-READ or visit the website at http://mahwah.bccls.org/ for program information. The Mahwah Public Library is located at 100 Ridge Road.
