Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • August 17, 2011 The Mahwah Marlins Diving Team, representing the Mahwah Municipal Pool, recently became 2011 Super Six League Champions. Mahwah’s diving team competed against Paramus, Saddle River Valley, Stony Brook, and Crestwood this season. First place Mahwah wins in the league championships were taken by Matthew Slockbower, followed by Jenna Braun, Cy Trojan, and Amir Ansari. Other strong competitors from Mahwah were Michael Kearney, Jillian Fox, Kevin Kearney, Grace Ferry, Samantha Ullman, Olivia Garvin, Dante D’Agostaro, Niko Konstantellis, Alexis Castro, Sophia Garvin, and Stephanie Hunstein. “This squad is one of the most talented teams I’ve seen,” Head Coach Jennifer Ullman noted. “They were focused in practice, and also had a great time together.” In addition to winning the League Diving Championship, the team also tied for first with Saddle River Valley for the 2011 League Dual Meet Season. Many of Mahwah’s divers will be competing at the New Jersey Pool Managers’ Championship Meets held this month at various pools throughout Bergen County. The Mahwah Marlins Diving Team Practices each weekday at the Mahwah Municipal Pool, starting the first week in June. Divers range in age from seven through 17. The team usually consists of 20 to 30 divers, all of whom are members of the Mahwah Pool. The team’s combination of everyday practices, specific dive mechanics, encouraging environment, and a wide amount of support from parents, is what is credited to the Marlin’s long history of success.
