(continued from page 5) to Karen Amy and Denise Dotoli, both of Ramsey; the Paul Harris Award was presented to Tom Komninos of Upper Saddle River and Jerry Crean of Mahwah; and outgoing President Thomas Komninos of Upper Saddle River received an award in appreciation of his service. The club presented a special award to Sara Kern of the Mahwah High School Interact Club for her work in creating a special fundraiser. Proceeds will be used to underwrite a “Gift of Life” child. Gift of Life brings seriously ill children from around the world to the United States for
life-saving heart operations. The Bergen Highlands-Ramsey Rotary Club has been supporting educational and charitable needs in Allendale, Mahwah, Ramsey, Saddle River, and Upper Saddle River since 1952. The club provides college scholarships for local students and funding for local causes such as The Center for Food Action. Members run the children’s rides at Ramsey Day and Mahwah Day, with proceeds going toward the club’s charitable activities. As part of Rotary International, the club also raises funds to support educational, medical, and sanitary facilities in Nicaragua, India, and Haiti.
The Ramsey 14U Select baseball team completed a successful pre-high school summer run by winning all five games played over a sweltering weekend in July. They defeated a well-coached, talented Wayne PAL team 8-4 in the championship game of the highly competitive NJYB 14U Sandy Koufax State Tournament. With this victory, the team earned a berth in The AABC North Atlantic Regional Tournament, which was played in Troy, New York.
