Seniors announce officers, events The Ramsey Seniors have announced the elected the following officers: Doug Rennie, president; JoAnn Bockhorn, vice president; Carol Tonnon, treasurer; and Filomena Darmiento, secretary. A complete list of committee chairs is available at the senior center. The seniors will travel to New York City to see Cirque DuSoleil at Radio City on Friday, Sept. 2. The group will lunch at Pigalle Restaurant before the 2 p.m. show. The bus will leave the center at 10 a.m. Tickets are $100 per person; checks may be made payable to “Borough of Ramsey.” This trip is open to Ramsey seniors only. The arthritis exercise program will be available on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. and Fridays at 2:30 p.m. A new eight-week Tai Chi course will begin Thursday, Sept. 9 at 12:50 p.m. in the senior center. Sign up at borough hall beginning Aug. 15. The cost is $10. Upcoming events include the annual picnic at the pool on Sept. 21, a visit to the Maganini Winery on Oct. 9, and a bus trip to New York City to see “Sister Act” on Nov. 9. Details will follow. Johns has earned dean’s list recognition at Virginia Tech for the spring 2011 semester. Johns is a freshman majoring in university studies. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.4. Theater group to present ‘Barnum’ OnStage, Inc. will present “Barnum” Aug. 11 through 13 at Ramsey High School, 266 East Main Street in Ramsey. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets, which will be available at the door, are $12 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens.

VBS holds registration, seeks volunteers The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer will hold its Vacation Bible School Aug. 8 through 12. Children ages four through grade four are invited to participate in “PandaMania: Where God is Wild about You!” Activities include Party Time Sing and Play, Wild Bible Adventures, Crazy Crafts, Bamboo Blast Games, Movie Mania, and Treetop Snacks and Treats. The program will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day. Children must be four years of age by Oct. 1. Volunteers are needed to help with activities. Highlands Presbyterian Church of Allendale on Sunday, Aug. 14 at Crestwood Lake Park, located on West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Women’s support group offered The First Presbyterian Church at 15 Shuart Lane will host a women’s support group on Wednesdays through Aug. 31. All women are welcome to attend. The summer meetings will begin will a short walk around the block at 7 p.m. and will continue with a discussion at 7:30 p.m. Topics to be addressed will include job loss, health and weight concerns, or simply growing older. Farmers Market continues The Ramsey Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Street train station, rain or shine. Visitors are encouraged to join the Pay it Forward program by dropping off non-perishable food items at a designated market table. The historic Ramsey Train Station built in the 1840s was the depot for local farmers who brought their produce for transport to Paterson and beyond.
