Smith Middle School in Ramsey and a Cadet Girl Scout with Ramsey Troop 569, is currently working toward her Silver Award. “My project is a Baby Basics Diaper Drive,” Felice explained. “I’m collecting diapers for local needy mothers and their families in conjunction with the Children’s Aid and Family Services in Paramus. Children’s Aid and Family Services is a nonprofit organization that has been helping needy, low-income families in Bergen County for the last 110 years. Their Baby Basics program provides well over 14,000 diapers a month to 112 local families. There is an overwhelming need for diapers in sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6.” Felice recently placed diaper donation boxes at the Ramsey Borough Hall, the Ramsey Police Station, and the Ramsey Post Office. He also has donation boxes in each of Girl Scout hosts Baby Basics Diaper Drive Ramsey’s five schools and in a few local churches. “I plan on giving CAFS the diapers for them to distribute to local needy mothers in time for Mother’s Day on May 8,” the Girl Scout said. “Each Mother’s Day, I give thanks to my mom and feel grateful for all my blessings. I’d like to bring some joy and give back to those less fortunate. “The Girl Scout Promise is to always help those in need. I know I can make a difference with the help of kind and compassionate local residents.” Felice became a Daisy Girl Scout when she was in kindergarten and continued in first grade. Her troop subsequently broke up, leading Felice to join another troop when she was in the fourth grade. She has been a member of Ramsey Girl Scout Troop 569 since then. As a fifth grade Junior Girl Scout, she received the Bronze Award along with her troop. Currently, Troop 569 consists of 15 cadets. “The Silver Award is the highest award a cadet can receive,” Felice said, adding that the Silver Award theme is leadership. “I am very excited about earning my Silver Award and am already thinking of possible Gold Award projects. “I chose the Baby Basics Project because there is an ongoing and overwhelming need for diapers for low-income mothers and families in Bergen County. I became aware of this need through my grandfather, Nick Felice, who has been a Children’s Aid and Family Services Board Member for many years.” Felice has already collected over 1,500 diapers to con- Helpful Hints Helpful Hints from ome “Make sure you know where the main water shut-off valve is in your home in case of emergency.
