facing our schools today is our finances,” Behrmann said. “We need to be fiscally prudent while continuing to maintain our outstanding quality of education. We are fortunate to have been able to develop a 2011-2012 budget, with the lowest tax impact percentage (1.72%) in more than 20 years. There are no program or staff cuts, and we were able to restore some previously eliminated programs. However, such savings in future budgets will prove far more difficult. Our board needs to work hard in its negotiations with the various bargaining units to achieve health benefits savings. Without such savings, future budgets will surely face drastic cuts to compensate for the continued increase in costs of employee health benefits.” Gasparovich is now seeking his fourth term on the board of education. The candidate was born in New York and raised in Palisades Park. He moved to Ramsey in 1993. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from Rutgers University. He is a vice president and partner at Reiner Group, Inc., a mechanical contracting and engineering firm based in Fair Lawn. The candidate and his wife Rose have two sons. He is currently chairman of the board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee and chair of the Curriculum Committee. He is also a member of Finance and Personnel committees. He previously served as chairman of the Negotiations and Finance Committee and as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Kaplan has resided in Ramsey since 1996. He joined the Ramsey Board of Education in 2007 and was elected to a three-year term in 2008.
A native of Westchester County, Kaplan holds a bachelor of arts in English literature from Stanford University and an MBA in marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He spent a semester at Oxford University. Kaplan is currently a mathematics teacher at an in-district charter school in Newark. He also teaches English at Eastwood College in Ramsey. He has held senior marketing roles in companies including Reuters, Comtex News Network, and Multex.com. He also runs Bergen Prep, a regional standardized test preparation and subject tutoring organization. The candidate has been a volunteer for the Ramsey Centennial Committee and for Ramsey’s soccer, baseball, and basketball recreational leagues, where he has served in head coaching and assistant coaching capacities. He also plays in the Ramsey Adult Soccer League. He is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 31 in Ramsey. Kaplan and his wife have two children. Meiman is a lifelong resident of Ramsey. He holds a BS in business administration from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York, and an MBA in management from William Paterson University. He is a parishioner at Saint Paul’s Church, where he has served as a reader and a religious education instructor. Meiman and his wife Linda are the parents of two. Their daughter is a graduate of Ramsey High School and their son is in fifth grade.
