Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • April 13, 2011 Mahwah Brandon Cowen, a seventh grade student at Ramapo Ridge Middle School in Mahwah, is asking the community to donate used or new baseball equipment that will delivered to young athletes in need through the Angels in the Outfield program. The equipment will go directly into the hands of the players from the Pershing Field Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues in Jersey City. Items being sought include baseballs, softballs, bats, gloves, mitts, batting gloves, cleats, clothing, helmets, caps, and catchers’ equipment. Monetary donations or gift cards to sporting goods stores are also welcome. Cowen, who plays for the Mahwah 13U Travel Baseball Team, loves baseball – especially the New York Yankees. Emulating the charitable work of Yankee Captain Derek Jeter, Cowen wanted to continue the Angels in the Outfield program this year. “I think every kid should play baseball, and knowing that kids don’t have their own equipment is something I want to stop. The Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity and Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity at Ramapo College of New Jersey will host a Dance Marathon to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital’s local beneficiary, Children’s Specialized Hospital, which has nine sites in New Jersey. The event will be held Saturday, April 16 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Friends Hall in the student center and will feature music, prizes, free food, games, and dancing. Special guest Ashleigh Udalovas, 2010 Miss New Jersey, will make an appearance, along with children who have been helped by the hospital.
