April 6, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 7 Ramsey ‘Renovation Grand Opening’ set The Ramsey Public Library has reopened to the general public following the completion of renovations at the building at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. As of last week, the facility was operating on an “abbreviated schedule,” library officials reported. Regular hours were slated to resume as of Friday, April 1. On Saturday, April 16, Ramsey Library trustees and staff members will host a Renovation Grand Opening that will begin at 11 a.m. Festivities will include an official ribbon cutting, and acknowledgements and recognition for library supporters. Tours of the renovated facility will be held between noon and 4 p.m. that day. The celebration will feature special events for children, including a surprise performer who will appear at 1 p.m., and crafts and activities all day. Library hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 16. If the library lot is full, event attendees may park at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Dater School, or the municipal lot across from Ramsey Borough Hall. Library personnel extend their thanks to Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta and the borough council, the Ramsey Junior Woman’s Club, the Friends of the Ramsey Library, and the entire community for supporting the renovation project. “We are delighted to recognize all who have helped make this project a reality,” Library Director Wendy Bloom said. The interior of the four-decade old library building has been reconfigured for improved efficiency within the same 14,000 square feet of space. The renovation included new windows and doors, a new heating and air conditioning system with equipment that saves energy and space, ADA-compliant restrooms, redesigned areas for patrons of all ages, space for wireless computing, and the reconfiguration of the library entrances. New popular books and media fill the open atrium of the library, and book stacks are located along the sides of the building. A glass enclosed reading room highlights the Wyckoff Avenue view. The updated program room opens directly into the children’s area for easy access to story times and crafts. The Ramsey Council awarded the library renovation contract to Aark Contractors, Inc. of Spring Valley, New York in 2009. The project is being funded by a $4,250,000 bond ordinance. While the renovations were underway, the library operated from a temporary location at 171 Lake Street, which opened in September 2009. The Lake Street location closed on Feb. 23, and staff members began packing up and moving back to Wyckoff Avenue. Other BCCLS libraries in the area assisted Ramsey residents while the borough’s resources were limited, and during the move from Lake Street to Wyckoff Avenue.
