He is survived by his sons Andrew Anderson Avirett of Mahwah and William Prescott Avirett of Hong Kong, his grandson Richard Matias Avirett, and his brother William U. Avirett of Cumming, Georgia. Funa of Mahwah, formerly of River Vale, has died. He was 90. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He spent 45 years in the textile industry in New York City, retiring in 1991 as senior vice president of a home furnishing company. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception in Mahwah. He is survived by his wife Joan, his children David of Scottsdale, Arizona, Darren of Wayne, Mark of Brick, and Bonnie of Woodcliff Lake, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Becker Funeral Home in Westwood. Marie Heaps, nee Hansen, of Mahwah died March 26. She was 90. Before retiring, she was a starter at Darlington Golf Course, where she was an avid golfer and instructor. She was the founder of the Tee Club at Darlington in 1979. He was 81. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran. Before retiring in 1980, he had been a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Midland Park for 31 years. He was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Midland Park for over 50 years, where he served as a deacon and elder. He is survived by his wife Irene, his children Shari Lucas of Niantic, Connecticut and Scott of Fair Lawn, and three grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired detective for the Jersey City Police Department. He was the former chief of security for Sabrett in Jersey City. He was a member of the Blue Knights of Bergen County, the VFW of Jersey City, and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Magrella) McCarthy, his children Sharyn A. McCarthy, and Michael B. McCarthy, two grandchildren, his mother Betty (nee Richard Munroe Avirett Jr. Colby) McCarthy, and his brother Gerard McCarthy. He was predeceased by his father Michael McCarthy Sr. Arrangements were made by Houghton Funeral Home in Jersey City. Robert Meyer of Mahwah died March 28. He was 65. Before retiring, he worked at The Record in Hackensack for 43 years. He is survived by his wife Irene (nee Ross) Meyer, his children Robert A. Meyer of Fort Worth, Texas, Cliff of Scottsdale, Arizona, Douglas Marsh of Vermont, and Laura Denberg of Tuxedo, New York, six grandchildren, and his brother Herman Meyer Jr. of Dumont. Madelyn “Maddie” McKelvey, nee Hasslinger, of Wyckoff and Ocean Grove, died March 27. She was 87. She is survived by her daughters Kate McKelvey of Juno, Arkansas, Cindy Garling of Wyckoff, and Amy Rodda of Levittown, Pennsylvania, three grandsons, and her brothers Ralph and Clifford Hasslinger. Helen Roslasky, nee Ribnick, of Franklin Lakes, formerly of Garfield, Paterson, Wayne, and Glen Rock, died March 25. She was 82. She had been employed as a secretary for Passaic County Motor Trucks and Parts in Saddle Brook. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Kooz of Franklin Lakes, and her grandson Kevin Kooz. Dr. Ciro Sebastian Tarta of Naples, Florida, formerly of Ridgewood, died March 25. He was 94. He was a U.S. Army Medical Corps veteran of WWII. He was a graduate of Fordham University and Flower Fifth Avenue Medical School. He had a medical and surgical practice in Paterson. He was a founding member of the Greater Paterson General Hospital in Wayne, which became Wayne General Hospital, and was the chair of obstetrics and gynecology and president of the medical staff. He was a parishioner of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood. He is survived Robert Meyer by his children Dr. Joseph A. Tarta of Rye, New Hampshire, Steven Tarta of Ridgewood, Lydia Nadeau of Wayne, and Marianne Haggerty of Glen Rock, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Peter Ernest Thauer of Vero Beach, Florida and Saddle River, died March 24. He was 71. He was a graduate of Blair Academy, Princeton University and The University of Chicago Law School. He served as assistant general counsel at Avon Products and most recently as senior vice president, law and environment and general counsel and secretary of Cambrex Corporation in East Rutherford. He was a member of the Arcola Country Club and John’s Island Club. He is survived by his children Peter Beck Thauer of Ridgewood, and Susan Bradford Moravec of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy Weny Thauer. He was an automotive mechanical engineer and had worked for the British Leland Motors Network and its New England dealerships as an instructional engineer for many years. He was an ASE certified mechanic. He is survived by his wife Roxanne (Lockman) Verdeaux, his children John L. Verdeaux of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Kristen S. He was a former flat track and motocross racer, and a member and officer of the Hawthorne and Fair Lawn Gun clubs. He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Bell) Young, his son Christian Young of Brick, and one grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Mildred Young.
