Ramsey April 6, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 13 The Bergen-Highlands Rotary Club recently selected the Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling of Ramsey as the club’s Service of the Month project. Hearts & Crafts is a non-profit that provides bereavement counseling for children and their families in 43 towns in New Jersey and 36 towns in New York. The organization received a bounty of snacks and supplies to assist in its mission to support local families during group and individual sessions. Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling was founded in 1994 by Laura Hudson, a board certified art therapist, and co-directed by Terry DeBrule, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, to serve families living with serious illness and loss. The organization is dedicated to providing a safe, caring environment as families work through the healing process. Situated in a cozy carriage house to create a home away from home, the counseling center has an art room, family room, and loft to replace the conventional psychotherapy office model. Clients, who can range in age from four to 99, are offered individual counseling and support groups. Most clients are referred by schools, medical practices, and other Hearts & Crafts families. Hearts & Crafts Grief Counseling, which initially served 20 families, now reaches approximately 250 Hearts & Crafts chosen for Service Project of Month Outside is now open.
