Municipal pool registration open Registration for the Ramsey Municipal Pool 2011 season is underway. Information and application forms may be found on the borough’s website, www.ramseynj. com. Go to the Municipal Pool tab on the left to access the pool membership/swim lessons form and the swim team form. The out-of-town membership program will continue in 2011 with sponsorship by a Ramsey member mandatory. The preseason rates will be in effect until April 22. Leisure Club news The Leisure Club is accepting reservations for the May 3 trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Leisure Club recently hosted Terry Wendrychowicz and Karen Wilson, members of Military Moms of Mahwah. Military Moms is an active support group comprised of individuals whose family members are serving in the military overseas. Wendrychowicz and Wilson appealed to the Leisure Club for care package items and monetary donations to cover shipping costs. Casino Night & Texas Hold’em Tournament set The Ramsey Cooperstown 12U Baseball Dream Team will host a Benefit Casino Night and Texas Hold’em Tournament on Friday, April 15 at the Knights of Columbus in Ramsey at 7:30 p.m. Dinner, drinks, casino games, prizes,
and entertainment are included. There will be professional dealers and special novice and beginner tables. Couples are welcome. Lenten Spaghetti Dinner set A Lenten Spaghetti Dinner will be held at the Adorno Fathers Center, 575 Darlington Avenue in Ramsey on April 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. A donation of $10 per person is requested. Children under age eight will be admitted free. The menu will include spaghetti with clam or marinara sauce, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Music will be provided by the priests and brothers of the Adorno Fathers. Tickets will be sold at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Adorno Fathers Seminary in Ramsey. Spring Boutique and Luncheon set Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church, located on the corner of Main Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will host its annual Spring Boutique and Luncheon on April 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Available for purchase are handcrafted and one-of-akind Easter and spring items such as Easter cards, note cards, specialty baked items, novelty items for Easter baskets, quilts and quilted table toppers, hand-knitted items, egg trees, floral wreaths, stained glass items, wooden lawn eggs, hand-dipped Easter chocolates, unique home and garden decorations, and other ornamental gift items. Mickel to present lecture on ferns John Mickel, an internationally recognized scientist, horticulturalist, and author, will present “Great Ferns for New Jersey Gardens” to the Ramsey Area Garden Club on April 12. The meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Dr. Mickel has been curator at the New York Botanical Garden since 1969. Band members selling hoagies Members of the Ramsey High School Big Blue Marching Band and Color Guard will be ringing doorbells through April 11 for the bi-annual Hoagie Sale. Hoagies will be delivered on Saturday, April 16. Proceeds from the sale help the band and guard travel to competitions where they promote Ramsey as one of the finest high school bands in the tri-state area. Donations are always welcome. Club seeks new members The Woman’s Club of Ramsey will host an Open House for prospective members on April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Tanis LaManna, 39 DeBaun Avenue. Ramsey Cleanup Day set The Ramsey Environmental Commission will hold its annual Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Rain date: April 10.) A light breakfast will be available at 9:30 a.m. Participants may sign up at the Ramsey Rescue Building on South Island Avenue, where they will receive supplies for the day.
