Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NhN), an organization offering free peer volunteer support for people actively seeking employment, announces the formation of a new chapter that will meet on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the Waldwick Public Library at 19 East Prospect Street The first of the weekly meetings is scheduled for Oct. 17. Started in River Edge in January of 2011, NhN has fostered an environment in which group members assist each other with job search techniques based on their own personal experience and knowledge of the job market. Regardless of career discipline or objective, members include workers in transition, recent college graduates, unemployed and underemployed professionals, those re-entering the job market, small business owners, and retirees seeking part-time work. “Not feeling alone or powerless is a critical factor in a job search, particularly for those who have been out of work for an extended period of time,” explains John Fugazzie, founder of NhN. “Support, discussion, and information sharing helps rebuild the confidence needed to successfully land a job.” To date, 17 members of recently formed NhN chapters in seven area libraries have found employment as a direct result of regularly attending meetings and putting to use the tips and techniques the group provides. Don Sciolaro, a borough councilman and library trustee, will serve as moderator of the Waldwick chapter of NhN. “This is a very difficult environment for anyone looking for a job whether you are currently out of work or looking for something new, “Sciolaro said. “Anything we can do to help out is certainly worth the effort. When I heard about this program and how it has helped people in neighboring communities, I thought we should try it here.” Participation in Neighbors Helping Neighbors is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and advance registration is recommended. The Warrior Cheerleaders, who cheerlead for the Waldwick High School Football Team in Waldwick, includes students from Waldwick and Midland Park. Due to budgetary cuts last year, Midland Park cut the cheerleading program and Waldwick cheered alone. Due to the efforts of parents and Mrs. Elizabeth Cericola, the head cheerleading coach in Waldwick, the Midland Park girls were once again included and the team is at full force this season.
