Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the election campaign of Councilman Tom Giordano for mayor and the re-election campaign to council of Andy Brennecke and Frank Palladino. Children’s events announced This October, Waldwick Library, located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick, will host two special events for children. On Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m., children’s author Nancy Raines Day, mother of children’s librarian Meghan Day, will share her latest picture book, the spooky (but not too scary) “On a Windy Night.” Following the interactive reading, there will be a question and answer session, and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. The library will welcome Full Effect Productions on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m. Join Magician Steve Woyce as he turns the library into a magical haunted house. Play a magical game of hide and seek with Gertrude the Witch, help put Bones the Skeleton back together, and help make ghosts appear and disappear. Historians to present slide lecture Regional historians Phil and Jean Jaeger will present a unique slide lecture, “Dining with History,” at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The program focuses on notable restaurants that operate from within historic structures. In every case, the building is an important part of early American heritage, whether it originally was a mill, inn, school, railroad station, private residence, or other structure. The program includes the origins of each establishment and exterior and interior views of each building as it appears today. Nearby attractions of interest will be highlighted. In the years since the Jaegers retired from teaching, they have spent considerable time researching and photographing New Jersey’s history. They have produced a number of slide shows about various topics, including the Morris Canal, the Passaic River, castles, mills, and deserted villages. Phil Jaeger, a retired mathematics teacher, is the author of “Montclair: A Postcard Guide to its Past” and “Cedar Grove.” Jean Jaeger, a retired first-grade teacher, is secretary of the Cedar Grove Historical Society and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization of key women educators. WEF hosts annual benefit dinner The Waldwick Education Foundation will host its annual fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Waldwick High School. The event will include a catered dinner, beverages, cookies, prizes, and gift baskets donated by students, families, and local merchants. Tickets may be purchased at Plaza Jewelers, 10 East Prospect Street, or through the schools for $15. Proceeds will be used for teacher requested grants to fund educational programs in Waldwick’s public schools. This year, the foundation has funded a kiln for middle and high school art classes, instruments for the marching band, webcams, a character education program, books for a reading club, second grade book “publishing,” a Revolutionary War assembly, a trip to Ellis Island, and a “Heroes and Cool Kids” program with high school students and fifth graders. Film series to feature families Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films of the past on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. The theme for October is families, and the schedule of screenings will be: Oct. 6, “National Velvet” (1944); Oct. 13, “The Miracle Worker” (1962); Oct. 20, “State Fair” (1945); and Oct. 27 “The Old Maid” (1939). Digital photo class offered Well-known New Jersey photographer Walter Choroszewski will present “Digital Photo Class II: I Took the Shot…Now What?” at the Waldwick Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. As a followup to his introductory program, “Getting to Know Your Digital Camera,” Choroszewski has designed this presentation to help develop a digital workflow and photo management plan. The program will include a comparison of some popular photo-editing software programs and tips and tricks for e-mailing images and making prints. In addition to the numerous coffee-table books and wall calendars Choroszewski has published about New Jersey, his images of the state were used to launch the popular “New Jersey & You…Perfect Together” tourism campaign of the 1980s and ‘90s.
