Meet the Chefs series begins The Upper Saddle River Library’ s Meet the Chefs series will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. when Christine Nunn, executive chef and co-owner of Picnic, The Restaurant shares her expertise and prepares a signature dish. Nunn has been rated best newcomer by the 2011-12 New Jersey Zagat survey. The program is open to Upper Saddle River library cardholders; non-residents who are Bergen County library cardholders will be placed on a wait-list. Bridge Club seeks players The Bridge Club at the Upper Saddle River Library meets on Fridays at 10 a.m. Anyone who is interested may register at the library, which is located at 245 Lake Street. Friends host Book Sale The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will hold its first Book Sale of the season on Saturday, Sept. 24. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Friends Room on the lower level of the library at 245 Lake Street. Special opening for Friends members only will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Memberships are available at the library or on the day of the sale.
The sale will include many hardcover and soft cover fiction and non-fiction books for readers of all ages. Videos, CDs, books on tape, and DVDs will also be for sale. Learn memory improvement tips On Sept. 22, Matthew Goerke, creator of the “Memory Switch Program” will share techniques for developing an instant recall memory with results that can only be described as amazing. Auxiliary hosts Beefsteak Dinner The Ladies Auxiliary of the Upper Saddle River Volunteer Fire Department will host a Beefsteak Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. The “All You Can Eat Beefsteak Dinner” will be held at the firehouse on West Saddle River Road. Beer and soda will be included. Attendees are invited to bring their own beverages. The event will include a cash prize and other prizes. Tickets are $35 per person and must be purchased in advance. Anniversary celebration set Zion Lutheran Church of Saddle River will celebrate its 190th Anniversary with a dinner in Fellowship Hall that will be catered by the Brownstone Restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 15. The celebration will continue on Sunday, Oct. 16 with at 10 a.m. ser-

The church now offers a family service at 9:30 a.m. in addition to the regular service at 11 a.m. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 96 East Allendale Road in Saddle River. Quilt making classes offered Kathleen Davies will offer quilt making classes at the Upper Saddle River Library on Oct. 6 and 20, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 1 and 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants will make a machine-pieced kimono, blocks for a wall hanging, or a lap quilt. Davies, a retired teacher and award-winning quilter, will offer information about selecting and cutting fabrics, constructing the blocks, and assembling the quilt. A list
of materials will be supplied at the first class. Participants will need to have access to a sewing machine. The cost is $60 for Upper Saddle River cardholders; and $70 for non-Upper Saddle River cardholders. The library is located at 245 Lake Street. Call (201) 327-2583 for more information.
