The day of the sale, Allendale Borough Hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale, will provide maps highlighting the addresses of all participating households for a suggested donation of $1. Lawn markers will identify participating homes. Half the proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit the Allendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Chamber plans meeting The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a Sept. 13 dinner meeting at Mezza Luna at 6:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 97 West Allendale Avenue. Senior health fair set Senior-Fit, the annual health fair hosted by The Atrium at The Allendale Community for Mature Living in Allendale, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the campus at 85 Harreton Road. Local residents are invited to participate in this free health event which is specially designed to address potential medical risks and undiagnosed medical conditions in older adults that may otherwise remain undetected. The health fair will feature a wide range of free wellness and health education sessions and information. Attendees will receive free gifts and an opportunity to win door prizes. Entertainment will be featured in the lobby. The following free break-out sessions will be held in The Atrium Cinema at the designated times: “Zumba Gold Senior Chair Aerobics,” led by Brooklynn Weight, at 10:45 a.m.; and Tai-Chi for Seniors with instructor Hasmig Mekjian at 11:30 a.m. Planned free offerings include: a foot screening performed by Howard Kliman, D.P.M.; a cervical spine evaluation performed by Pinelli Chiropractic Center; hand and foot massages courtesy of Jeannette Mendez; chair massage therapy and young living essential oils compliments of Jaime Bachrach, C.M.T. and Andrew Cicirelli, L.M.T., respectively; Shiatsu massage courtesy of Barbara Finlayson; aromatherapy provided by Vitas Hospice Care; mental aerobics/“Games Seniors Play” by Debbie Shapiro; and blood pressure screenings with a nurse from The Allendale Community. Inaugural Afternoon Tea to be held at Fell House The Concerned Citizens of Allendale, owners of the John Fell House, will host an inaugural Afternoon Tea on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at noon. The tea will be held in the house and on the grounds of this historical home at 475 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale. The community is invited to join CCA’s Tea Room Committee for a four course tea catered by Passport Café of West Milford. This “Patriots’ Afternoon Tea” will offer two appetizer courses followed by traditional tea sandwiches, scones with preserves and Devonshire clotted cream, petit fours, and a surprise dessert. There will also be a presentation by a local business: the Celery Farm Soap Company. The cost is $35 and all proceeds will go toward the restoration and renovation of the John Fell House. A Harvest Tea has been set for Tuesday, Nov 8, and a Holiday Tea is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 11, when the Fell House will be decorated for the holidays and guests will be invited to walk around the house to view each themed room. Reservations are also being taken for the November and December Afternoon Teas. Thrift shop hosts grand reopening The Archer United Methodist Church’s Clothes Line Thrift Shop, located at 37 East Allendale Avenue in Allendale, will reopen Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. with new days and hours. The shop’s new schedule will be Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shop will be open on Sept. 17 and 24. Gently used clothing and household items may be dropped off at the church on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The shop’s inventory has a large selection of clothing for people of all ages, shoes, toys, books, and household items. The shop is a non-profit organization with proceeds benefiting various church organizations. Cub Scout registration under way Registration for Allendale Cub Scouts for 2011-12 has begun. Boys in grades one through five are invited to join. Scout programs foster leadership, confidence, and character as participants embark on a variety of adventures.
