Upper Saddle River October 26, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Dr. Lisa Ann Miller of Upper Saddle River is one of six health care professionals who will be honored by the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative, Inc. at the organization’s second anniversary event: “Celebrating the Culture of Caring: Reception and Buffet Supper” on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The celebration will be held at 6 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. Dr. Miller will receive the Community Leadership Award for outstanding volunteer service to BVMI patients. BVMI, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, provides free primary medical care to working, low-income residents of Bergen County who have no health insurance. Volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other health care professionals treat patients at the BVMI Healthcare Center, 241 Moore Street, Hackensack. Additionally, over 300 doctors in specialty practice throughout the county offer pro-bono service on a limited basis to BVMI patients. Dr. Miller, on staff in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Hackensack University Medical Center, is the mainstay of gynecological services at the Lisa Ann Miller to receive Community Leadership Award BVMI Health Care Center. As a volunteer, she sees at least six women every other week, performing endometrial and cervical biopsies among other diagnosis and tests. Her complete examinations and follow through have helped BVMI’s female patients move forward on a path of awareness and self-care. A consultant to the emerging Women’s Health Initiative at the Center, Dr. Miller recommends practice and protocol in response to the needs of the growing number of women seeking care. She also maintains a busy practice at Excelsior Women’s Care in Hackensack. Dr. Miller enjoys traveling with her husband Bob and their two sons, photography, and jogging. Helping others through participation in charitable causes is important to the Millers.
