Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the Republican candidates for state, county, and local office in the November general election. The meeting is open to the public. Wine pairing dinner benefit seeks support The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is seeking donations and sponsors for its wine pairing dinner and special auction fundraising event on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. The high-profile event features Dan Amatuzzi, wine director of Eataly in New York City and private wine consultant, who will offer tips on unique wine and food pairing. Gallery features two generations of artists Saddle River Gallery, now located in the heart of Englewood, will begin its new season of art with an exclusive exhibition: “Pissarro -- Two Generations of Great Art.” The exhibit includes works by Paulémile Pissarro (1884– 1972) and son H. Claude Pissarro (b. 1935). Paulémile is the son and H. Claude the grandson of famous French impressionist painter Camille Pissarro (1830–1903). Today, Camille Pissarro is considered a “father figure not only to the impressionists” but to the major post-impressionists, including Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin. The exhibit will be open to the public through Oct. 29. Residents asked to complete survey The Upper Saddle River Mayor and Council will be conducting an update of its Vision 2020 survey. The survey will be distributed as an insert in the September Borough Bulletin, which is mailed to all households. Information and copies of the survey are also available on the borough website, www.usrtoday.org. Residents are asked to watch for the survey and help the governing body by filling it out, regardless of whether they participated in the original survey. The surveys, one per family, are to be returned to borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road by Nov. 1. Residents will be asked for their opinions on a variety of topics, including traffic and safety, controlling costs, preservation, and recreation. The results of the survey will be tallied and released by Jan. 1, 2012. Based on the work of the 2020 Committee and the town wide survey results, a report was prepared outlining future goals for the borough. Juniors collect donations for veterans The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is seeking donations of clothing and personal products to benefit veterans’ homes located in Menlo Park, Paramus, and Vineland. The homes are open to men and women who have served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. The residents, who live on a fixed living allowance, have their health needs met, but are in need of personal care items and basic clothing. The club is seeking donations of the following items: men’s new (with tags attached) sweatshirts and sweatpants in size large through 3XL, and T-shirts in medium through 3XL; deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, denture care products (no liquids); batteries; sunglasses with dark lenses; and electric razors. Free health consultations offered The Valley Hospital Community Health Department in conjunction with the Saddle River Board of Health will continue to conduct free adult health consultations for Saddle River residents on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 10 Wolf Run, Saddle River. The sessions consist of blood pressure, pulse, and weight monitoring. Information including such health concerns as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and a review of medications will also be discussed. All services are provided by a registered nurse.
