The cakes and pies, provided by Carousel Cakes Bakery, are available at discount prices. These specialty desserts retail for $40 in gourmet shops, but can be ordered through the Waldwick Library at $15 per pie and $17 per cake. Black and white mousse, carrot, New York blackout, New York cheese, and mousse supreme are among the cake offerings. Pie selections include coconut custard, Toll House, pumpkin, pumpkin cheese, pecan, and a variety of fruit pies. Order forms, a catalogue of desserts, and other details are available at the library circulation desk. The deadline for placing orders for Thanksgiving is noon on Saturday, Nov. 12 for pickup on Nov. 22. The deadline for placing orders for Christmas is noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 for Dec. 22 pickup. The Friends of the Waldwick Library is an organization that raises funds to provide programs and services that are beyond the scope of the library’s annual operating budget. Prescription drug take back day set The Waldwick Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s “Operation Take Back New Jersey” initiative on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Safety Building at 15 East Prospect Avenue. The event provides the public with an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous. No questions will be asked. Syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted and no medications will be accepted before or after the event. Event organizers note that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. For additional information, contact Det. Sgt. Borough announces leaf pickup schedule The Borough of Waldwick will provide two complete pickups in each voting district. The schedule, which began on Oct. 18 and will continue through Dec. 22 is based on the voting districts. Residents who are unsure of their voting district are advised to contact the borough clerk at (201) 652-5300, extension 238. The second pick up for voting district number one will be Nov. 17; for district number two, Nov. 23. District three is scheduled for Nov. 4 and Dec. 13; district four on Oct. 26 and Dec. 1; district five on Nov. 10 and Dec. 19; and district six on Oct. 31 and Dec. 7. Residents are reminded garbage, branches, shrubs or debris of any sort will not be picked up as part of the leaf program. Residents should rake the leaves onto the street one-day prior to the date indicated on the schedule for pick-up in their districts. Leaves should not be placed closer than 10 feet from storm drains. Please note that there may be variations in this schedule due to weather conditions or emergencies.
