Tillie Ascher of Allendale, formerly of Garden City, New York, died Oct. 19. She was 83. She was a parishioner of Guardian Angel Church in Allendale and formerly of Saint Anne’s Parish in Garden City. She is survived by her children Jean Borzilleri of Allendale, John Ascher of Manhattan, Thomas Ascher of Massapequa, New York, and Stephen Ascher of Garden City, eight grandchildren, and her sister Rose Scheidecker of Lynbrook, New York. Donald Richard Cannon of Denville, formerly of Montvale and Waldwick, died Oct. 19. He was 86. Before retiring in 1993, he was a managing editor at McGraw Hill in New York. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Brooklyn Poly Tech, taught business writing, and tutored English part time in local colleges. He sang in church and local choir groups. He is survived by his children Donald R. Cannon, Jr. of Warwick, New York, Jeffrey D. Cannon of Pompton Lakes, and Andrew P. Cannon of Amherst, New Hampshire, and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor D. Cannon and his grandson Benjamin Cannon. Arrangements were made by Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton. Devine of Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, formerly of Waldwick, died Oct. 13. She was 92. She was a graduate of Ramsey High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as credit office manager at Meyer Brothers Department Store in Paterson. She was a parishioner of Saint Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus for 65 years. In the early 1960s, she was a parish volunteer secretary for the Newark Development Fund Drive through which Bergen Catholic High School, Paramus Catholic, and Immaculate Heart Academy were opened in Bergen County. She was employed by Saint Luke’s Church as secretary for 20 years until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Saint Luke’s Home and School Executive Board for many years and was a member and past president of Saint Luke’s Rosary Society. She was a member of the Waldwick Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary of Ridgewood. She was a parishioner of Saint Jude’s Church in Mountaintop, and a member of the Rosary Society and the Thursday Morning Scripture Study Group. She was also a member of the Mountaintop Social Club. She is survived by children Edgar of West Orange, Claire Thonus of Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, and John of Ramsey, her grandchildren William Devine, Matthew and Laura Thonus, Michael Thonus, and Chris-

Stuart Robert Lazarus of Upper Saddle River died Oct. 17. He was 74. He graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn, New York and attended college in the south on two football scholarships. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Dana Lustbader, Adrienne Marlazzi, Stacey Nicole Orlov, and Scott Schaeffer, six grandchildren, and his siblings Bernice Berkower and Edward Lazarus. Dorothy Rose Loftus of Upper Saddle River died Oct. 9. She was 86. Prior to her marriage, she worked for Bendix Corporation, and as a model. During the 1970s, she was four-time Women’s Golf Club Champion at Hackensack Golf Club, where she was a member. She is survived by her children Brian Reed Loftus of Wardsboro, Vermont and Howard J. Loftus III of Upper Saddle River, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her siblings Gloria Nelson of Belleair Beach, Florida, and Walter Zinsmeister of Weyers Cave, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband Howard “Big H” J. Loftus Jr. Kevin H. McVey of Ho-Ho-Kus died Oct. 19. He was 83. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He attended art school and became an illustrator for Ted Bates Advertising Agency in New York. Soon after, he began a career as a newspaper cartoonist, working for The Record for 27 years, retiring in 1989 as an award-winning theatrical caricaturist and special features artist. He also was a court room sketch artist, and a sports and editorial cartoonist at The Record. He is survived by his children Kitt Cela of East Hampstead, New Hampshire and Christopher of Ho-HoKus, two grandchildren, and his sister Joan Kahn of Baltimore, Maryland. She was a member of Barnert Temple in Franklin Lakes. She was dedicated to many charitable organizations and served for several years on the board of the Jewish Family Service of North Jersey. She is survived by her husband Eugene, her children Martin Rosensweet, Fran and Howard Ruff, and Ellen and Miles West, five grandchildren, and her brother Michael Moskow. Arrangements were made by

She was 69. Born in Hilversum, Holland, she lived in Midland Park before moving to Ho-Ho-Kus. She was the co-owner of the Ridgewood Corset Shop in Ridgewood since 1977. She is survived by her husband Grant H. of Ho-Ho-Kus, her sons Grant II of Alexandria, Virginia and Eric of Westwood, and four grandchildren. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony’s R.C. Church in Brooklyn, where she was a member of the parish senior center. She was a member of the Greenpoint Senior Citizens Club. She is the Past Worthy Matron of Fortitude Chapter #161 Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her children Robert, Valerie Cates, and Lauren White, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her first husband Thomas G. Wood, her second husband Anthony Cohill, and her son Thomas. Arrangements were made by Martin Mortuary in Colorado. James Walter “Jim” Young of Fair Oaks, California, formerly of Upper Saddle River, died Oct. 17. He was 62. He was a U.S. military veteran. He was a member of the first graduating class of Northern Highlands High School, where he was captain of the football team and co-captain of the basketball team. He was the owner of the Emery Winslow-West Scale Company and served on its board of directors. He was a member of the New Apostolic Church. He was a member of the Rollingwood Racquet Club. He is survived by his wife Diane, his children Patricia YoungSchattenhofer, Stephanie, Emma, Elizabeth, and Robert, his father Walter and his wife, Lee, and his siblings Jane, Judith Loeffler, Jonathan, David, and William.
