Class of 2012 to host movie fundraiser Allendale’s Brookside School Class of 2012 will host a movie fundraiser at the Ramsey Theater, 125 East Main Street in Ramsey, at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19 and 20. The feature presentation will be “Twilight: Breaking Dawn.” Tickets are $8 in advance and may be ordered by sending a check made payable to “Brookside Class of 2012” to Gayle Lerch, 9 Butternut Road, Allendale, NJ 07401. Preordered tickets will be held at the door. Tickets will be sold at the door for $9. Children collect for UNICEF On Halloween, Oct. 31, Allendale children will trickor-treat for UNICEF. Supported by the Allendale PTO, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is an education and fundraising program designed to teach children about their peers in developing countries and empower them to help others in need. Residents are asked to support the children’s appeal for donations when they trick or treat with the orange UNICEF donation boxes. Founded in 1946, UNICEF helps save, protect, and improve the lives of children in over 150 countries through immunization, health care, therapeutic foods, clean water, sanitation, emergency relief, education, and more. Flu vaccine available The Allendale Board of Health will offer flu vaccinations to Allendale residents at borough hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue, on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 2 to 3 p.m. There is no charge for adults age 65 and over who present a valid Medicare Card. Anyone 18 years or older will be charge $15. A consent form is required for all. Residents already covered by a health care plan are encouraged to use their managed care provider for this immunization. Flu shots are recommended for those age 65 and older, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and children- especially those between six months and five years of age. Anyone with questions about receiving the vaccine should consult with his or her health care provider, especially those who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs, those who have had a reaction in the past to the vaccine, those with moderate or severe illness with a fever, and anyone with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Cub Scouts hold holiday wreaths fundraiser Cub Scout Troop 59 of Allendale is holding its Holiday Wreath Sale. Included in the sale are wreaths, sprays, centerpieces, and hangers. Harvest Wine Tasting event set Guardian Angel Church in Allendale will host its Second Harvest Wine Tasting on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Guardian Angel Auditorium, 320 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. The tasting, presented by Maratene’s of Waldwick, will feature hors d’oeuvres, a live jazz band, door prizes, and a cash prize. AFEE seeks grant proposals The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc is accepting grant proposals for programs that will enhance the educational experience for students in Allendale’s Hillside and Brookside schools. Proposals will be accepted through Oct. 27. Parents, teachers, local business people, students, staff, and all other members of the community are encouraged to participate in submitting projects or programs that are in keeping with the foundation’s mission to enhance and broaden the educational experience for public school students. Holiday Observers host Halloween Parade Allendale children, from preschoolers through eighth graders, are invited to participate in the Allendale Holiday Observers’ Annual Halloween Parade. Children are invited to parade in costume on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Brookside School Auditorium. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Complimentary candy, snacks, drinks and a light meal served by Allendale Eats, and posters will be available for pick up in the school cafeteria. The winners of the Poster Painting Contest will be awarded at the Halloween Parade. Rotary Club changes meeting venue The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club will hold its weekly meeting at Savini’s Restaurant, 168 West Crescent Avenue, Allendale. Correction The Oct. 19 article regarding the resurfacing of Chestnut Street in Allendale identified resident Peter Branigan as the borough’s CERT leader. While that information is correct, Branigan, whose name was misspelled in the article, spoke as a private citizen at the council meeting.
