Library hosts Autumn Book Sale The Friends of the Allendale Library will host an Autumn Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. A wide variety of almost new fiction and nonfiction books for adults and children, including many current best-sellers, history, science fiction, education, and travel books, will be available at bargain prices, starting at 25 cents. The sale includes books on photography, gardening, cooking, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas. Videos and books on tape will also be for sale. Proceeds from the sale go directly to the library to purchase new materials. Rotary sets Thanksgiving Pie Sale The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club is holding its Thanksgiving Pie Sale, which will feature pies from Di Piero’s in Woodcliff Lake. Order pies now for pickup on Nov. 21 or 22 in Allendale. Filling choices include pumpkin, apple, peach, blueberry, mince, coconut custard, and pecan. Crust choices include traditional or crumb. Pies are $10 for the small size, and $13 for the large size. Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Monday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Brookside School Library, 100 Brookside Avenue. Chamber plans meeting The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a lunch meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at The Allendale Community for Mature Living, 85 Harreton Road. Flu vaccine available The Allendale Board of Health will offer flu vaccinations to Allendale residents at borough hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue, on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 2 to 3 p.m. There is no charge for adults age 65 and over who
present a valid Medicare Card. Anyone 18 years or older will be charge $15. A consent form is required for all. Residents already covered by a health care plan are encouraged to use their managed care provider for this immunization. Flu shots are recommended for those age 65 and older, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and children- especially those between six months and five years of age. Anyone with questions about receiving
the vaccine should consult with his or her health care provider, especially those who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs, those who have had a reaction in the past to the vaccine, those with moderate or severe illness with a fever, and anyone with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Parents should also ask their physicians about whether children younger than six months of age should receive the vaccine.
